Zara Tindall’s Praise for Princess Anne’s Decision on Royal Titles

Zara Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne, recently shared her thoughts on her mother's decision not to bestow royal titles upon her and her brother, Peter.

In a candid interview with former rugby player Rob Burrow for his podcast, Total Sport, Zara and her husband Mike, who reside on Gloucestershire's Princess Anne Estate at Gatcombe Park, discussed various aspects of their lives.

The conversation took an interesting turn when Zara was asked about the advice she would give her younger self.

Initially hesitant, Zara opened up about her unique position within the royal family and expressed gratitude for Princess Anne's choice not to make them working royals.

She commended her mother for the decision, stating, “I was clearly very fortunate that my mother didn't give us any titles, so I really commend her on that.”

Zara emphasized the independence they gained from this approach and highlighted the importance of instilling a strong work ethic in their children.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Zara mentioned how both she and her brother, along with their cousins, enjoyed a relatively normal childhood despite their royal connections.

She expressed a desire for her own children to have similar experiences and appreciated the value of such moments only becoming apparent once she became a parent herself.

Princess Anne's choice not to grant her children HRH titles was a deliberate one, aimed at providing them with a sense of normalcy.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2020, Princess Anne acknowledged the potential downsides of having titles and believed that opting out was the right decision.

This decision was made evident when Princess Anne and her former husband, Captain Mark Phillips, welcomed their first child, Peter, in 1977 at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington.

Peter, as the first grandchild of the Queen, currently holds the 17th position in the line of succession to the throne.

Unlike some of his royal relatives, Peter chose to pursue a career outside the traditional royal duties and is now involved in sports management after his time with Jaguar Racing.
