WME Drops Meg as Dior Partnership Fizzles Out
The world of Hollywood has been buzzing with rumors surrounding the future plans of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
After signing up with talent agency WME in April, speculation arose that she was on the verge of inking a lucrative deal with French fashion giant Dior.
Reports suggested that this partnership could potentially earn her a staggering $20 million over three years.
However, it seems that these rumors have been put to rest as Dior recently denied any contact negotiations or recent communication with Markle.
The question now arises: Did Meghan jump the gun by assuming that WME would secure her a deal with Dior?
Some believe that this is a prime example of Markle derailing her own train.
As a working royal, Meghan would not have been able to accept money from external sources, as senior royals are prohibited from receiving any other income.
Josh Herbert, stylist and founder of Captain Krebs, explained that while Meghan has been regarded as a fashion influencer for years, she could not officially become a brand ambassador or be paid to promote a label.
Traditionally, senior royals have favored specific designers, such as Princess Kate's preference for Alexander McQueen.
Although they are not allowed to collaborate with these brands, their unofficial endorsement serves as excellent public relations for the companies.
Herbert further noted that extended family members often use their royal connections to generate additional income by becoming legitimate brand ambassadors.
For instance, in Monaco, Charlotte Casigary, the 11th in line to the throne and niece of Prince Albert, has served as the face of Gucci's cosmetics line.
These rumors about Meghan potentially becoming the Duchess of Dior come in the wake of criticism from a Spotify executive who labeled her and Prince Harry as “grifters.”
This comment followed the couple's abrupt termination of their approximately $25 million deal with the streaming giant.
Bill Simmons, the head of podcast innovation and monetization at Spotify, expressed his disappointment on his self-titled podcast, emphasizing that Meghan and Harry's podcast, Archewell, failed to deliver sufficient content.
In three years, they managed to produce only about 13 hours of material, focusing on stereotypes against women.
As a result, Spotify and Archewell mutually agreed to part ways, according to a joint statement released by both parties.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead for Meghan Markle in terms of her future endeavors.
While the Dior partnership appears to have fallen through, it is clear that Markle's influence in the world of fashion and beyond will continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
