Vanity Fair Rejects Meghan’s Request for 110th Anniversary Cover

Vanity Fair, the renowned magazine, has snubbed 's request to appear on their upcoming 110th anniversary cover.

This decision comes as no surprise, considering the strained relationship between the Duchess of Sussex and the editor-in-chief following a previous collaboration that ended on a sour note in 2017.

In 2013, Vanity Fair celebrated its centennial anniversary with a special edition featuring Kate Upton.

The cover paid homage to the magazine's inaugural issue from 1913, showcasing Upton in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired look with blonde curls and a gold satin bodice.

Now, as the publication gears up for its 110th anniversary in September 2023, they are carefully considering influential and inspiring women to grace their cover.

Speculation arose that was anticipating an invitation from the editor-in-chief.

However, the likelihood of this happening is quite low due to the editor's lingering disappointment over their previous partnership.

Meghan's reputation for wanting complete control over every aspect, from concept to makeup style, did not sit well with Vanity Fair.

Her desire to appear n^de with only n^de lipstick on the cover seemed puzzling, as it disregarded potential brand sponsorships and focused solely on her collarbone.

Furthermore, Meghan's relationship with Vanity Fair took another hit when Buckingham Palace reacted furiously to an interview she did with the magazine in September 2017.

Initially thrilled about being featured on the cover, Meghan was disappointed when the focus shifted to her relationship with rather than her work as an actress, activist, and philanthropist.

The palace was taken aback by the article's emphasis on her personal life, attributing it to Vanity Fair's inability to verify key details about her activism during her childhood.

The interview, organized by Kelly Thomas Morgan from Meghan's PR firm Sunshine Sachs, was conducted by Sam Kashner, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair who admitted to being unfamiliar with Meghan beforehand.

Kashner was aware that sensitive subjects such as race, Donald Trump, and her relationship with the Prince were off-limits, as instructed by both Harry and the PR firm.

Despite these precautions, the interview triggered a storm of controversy, with critics accusing Meghan of using her relationship with Harry to further her own career.

Unhappy with the outcome, Meghan contacted Ken Sunshine and Kelly Thomas Morgan, expressing her anger towards the palace's reaction.

She believed that her comments about her relationship with Harry should have been removed from the article, and even threatened to sever ties with her PR team over the cover.

In response, Ken Sunshine reportedly warned Vanity Fair's editor that he would have to answer to the Queen for this situation.

It was implied that Meghan only secured the cover due to her connection to the royal family, rather than her own merits.

As the 110th anniversary of Vanity Fair approaches, the magazine remains focused on finding influential and inspiring women to feature on their cover.

While Meghan Markle may not be among them this time, the anticipation for the upcoming issue continues to build.
