Vancouver Veterans Demand Removal of Harry and Megan from Invictus Games
A wave of fury swept through Vancouver as veterans gathered in protest, demanding the expulsion of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from the upcoming Invictus Games.
The demonstration, which took place outside City Hall, saw hundreds of wounded, injured, and sick veterans, along with other non-injured veterans, expressing their outrage towards the royal couple.
The veterans accused Harry and Megan of disrespecting the military and the monarchy with their actions and statements, labeling them as disloyal and damaging.
The protest, organized by a group known as Veterans Against the Sussexes, aimed to push for the removal of Harry and Megan from the Invictus Games Foundation, as well as the revocation of their titles and patronage rights.
The group, which has been active both online and offline, sent letters and petitions to Prime Minister King and the Invictus Games organizers, urging them to bar the Sussexes from the event and find alternative royal patrons or representatives.
With approximately 500 veterans from various branches and ranks of the Canadian Armed Forces in attendance, the protest was a visible display of dissent.
Chants filled the air, signs were waved, and effigies of Harry and Megan were set ablaze.
Messages on placards conveyed sentiments such as “Invictus Games, not Sussex Games” and “Harry, you've betrayed us.
Megan, you're not welcome here.”
The atmosphere was charged with emotion, yet the protest remained peaceful and orderly, adhering to police instructions.
During the two-hour rally, protesters shared personal stories of how the Invictus Games had aided in their recovery and restoration of purpose following injuries or illnesses sustained during service.
Their pride in the military and monarchy contrasted sharply with their disappointment in Harry and Megan, whom they felt had abandoned and insulted them.
The protest marked a significant moment in Canada, shedding light on the rift caused by the royal couple's actions.
In response to the protest, the organizers of the upcoming Invictus Games affirmed their support for Harry and Megan, acknowledging the veterans' perspectives while emphasizing the couple's role as founders and supporters of the event.
The statement reiterated the organization's commitment to hosting a successful and meaningful Invictus Games in Canada, welcoming all veterans and their families.
Various sponsors and partners echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in the event and gratitude towards Harry and Megan.
The veterans' demonstration underscores the deep-seated discontent and division sparked by Harry and Megan's involvement in the Invictus Games.
Questions loom over the future of the event, as well as the couple's standing within it.
Scheduled to commence in Vancouver and Whistler next February, the games are anticipated to draw athletes from 23 countries, competing in a range of sports from skiing to wheelchair rugby.
The event is poised to honor the courage and resilience of military service members, despite the controversy surrounding its royal patrons.
