UK Parliament Votes to Strip Harry and Meghan of Royal Titles
In a significant blow to Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the UK Parliament has made a decisive move to remove their royal titles following the launch of their website, Sussex.edu.
The website not only showcases information about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, but also serves as a platform for their non-profit organization, the Archwell Foundation, and their production company, Archwell Productions.
This development has triggered widespread outrage and criticism from various royal observers and commentators who have accused the couple of exploiting their royal positions and violating their agreement with the royal family when they stepped down as senior royals in 2020.
The existence of the website prompted an immediate and harsh response from the UK Parliament, which conducted a debate on Tuesday to amend the 1917 Titles Deprivation Act.
This Act grants the Privy Council the authority to strip individuals of their titles or honors in cases of treason, felony, or misconduct.
During the debate, Conservative MP Bob Saley introduced a motion alleging that the Sussexes had contravened the Act by utilizing their titles and the Royal Coat of Arms for commercial purposes and by undermining the dignity and integrity of the Crown and the Royal Family.
The motion put forth the belief that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had forfeited their right to their titles and the Royal Coat of Arms due to engaging in activities that are inconsistent with the values and traditions of the monarchy, causing harm and embarrassment to the Crown institution and the UK’s reputation.
With the support of 312 MPs and opposition from 213 MPs, the motion garnered a majority of 99 votes in favor.
The Government also backed the motion, citing the Sussexes’ lack of respect and gratitude towards the Queen and the nation, highlighting their website as a breach of trust and protocol.
The motion is now set to be presented to the Privy Council, which will have the final say on the removal of the Sussexes’ titles.
The Privy Council is anticipated to convene next week and announce its decision shortly thereafter.
While Harry and Meghan have yet to respond to the motion, sources close to them have expressed shock, hurt, and anger at the Parliament’s ruling.
They see it as a personal affront and a punitive action for standing by their truth and living authentically.
The sources conveyed that the Sussexes have no intentions of surrendering their website or titles and are determined to continue advocating for their rights and freedom.
Harry and Meghan are deeply saddened by the decision, which they perceive as a direct attack and retaliation for voicing their truth and following their chosen path.
They have invested significant effort in building their brand and platform and are resolute in not allowing anyone to undermine their progress.
They stand firm in their pride for their website and titles, refusing to bow to the demands of Parliament.
In the face of potential legal action, Harry and Meghan enjoy unwavering support from millions of individuals worldwide who admire and stand by them in solidarity.
The couple remains steadfast in their resolve to defend their position and uphold their beliefs, despite the mounting challenges and opposition they face.
