TV Host Criticizes Meghan Markle’s New Children’s Book, “The Bench”
A TV host recently deviated from her script to express her criticism of Meghan Markle following the announcement of her new children's book.
Titled “The Bench,” the book revolves around the special bond between a father and son, drawing inspiration from Meghan's husband, Prince Harry, and their son, Archie.
Scheduled to be published by Random House Children's Books on June 8, the audiobook version will be narrated by Meghan herself and features illustrations by award-winning artist Christian Robinson.
However, during a segment on Australia Today, host Alison Langdon couldn't conceal her lack of interest in the Duchess of Sussex's latest venture.
Going off script, Langdon disregarded the comparison of Meghan to renowned children's authors such as Roald Dahl and J.K. Rowling.
Despite the scripted intention, she candidly labeled the comparison as a “stretch.”
Langdon also expressed her skepticism about Meghan narrating the audiobook, sarcastically remarking, “Can you imagine anything better?
I mean, pop it on in the car, pop it on at home when you're cooking dinner.
Meghan's dulcet tones.”
Meghan herself explained in a press statement that “The Bench” originally began as a poem she wrote for Prince Harry on Father's Day, shortly after Archie's birth.
This heartfelt poem eventually evolved into the storybook it is today.
Langdon's co-host couldn't help but burst into laughter before joining in on the jesting, jokingly commenting, “They actually write poetry together.”
Not surprisingly, Piers Morgan, a well-known critic of Meghan, also voiced his disapproval of the book.
In his latest column for the Daily Mail, he referred to the Duchess as a “shameless money grabber.”
Morgan argued that Meghan should not be writing a book centered around father and child relationships, considering her strained relationship with her own father.
He pointed out that despite living just 70 miles apart, Meghan has chosen to disown her father, Thomas.
Morgan further criticized Meghan as a “cynical disingenuous manipulator” and referred to Prince Harry as a “spoilt brat teenager.”
Meghan, in her statement, expressed her hope that “The Bench” would resonate with all families, regardless of their composition, just as it does with her own.
The book is expected to become a bestseller, partially due to the support of many Duchess fans who have pledged to purchase two copies each.
