Sweet Memories: The Royal Family Pays Tribute to Prince Philip
The passing of Prince Philip last week at the age of 99 has prompted the royal family to share cherished memories of the late Duke.
Among the heartfelt tributes are rare candid photographs capturing the royals in their everyday lives.
One such photo, shared by Prince William, shows the Duke and Prince George in a carriage, accompanied by a touching statement about his late grandfather.
On the eve of Prince Philip's funeral, Queen Elizabeth II and her grandson-in-law, Mike Tindall, took to Instagram to pay tribute to the late Prince.
Alongside his post, Mike shared a never-before-seen image of Philip, referring to him as a devoted family man.
In his message, Mike expressed that it had been a sad week but that the family was taking time to reflect on wonderful memories ahead of Saturday's funeral.
He further wrote, “A devoted family man who I will forever miss but always love.”
The heartwarming tribute photo, taken by Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, captures a moment between Mike and Zara Tindall's eldest daughter, Mia Tindall, and her great-grandfather.
The two are seen eating and chatting on a bench outside a log cabin.
Although the date of the photograph is undisclosed, it is speculated to have been taken on the Sandringham Estate, where the Duke retired to Wood Farm in 2017.
Mia appears engrossed in conversation with her grandfather while he enjoys a plate of food.
Three plates rest on the table, with the possibility that the third diner is Kate, who may have taken the picture.
A glass of beer, the Duke's preferred lunchtime drink, can be seen on a banister behind them.
Mike and Zara have three children together, and earlier this week, their youngest daughter, Lena, was featured in her first royal portrait.
The photograph includes baby Lena being held by her cousin Isla, who is the youngest daughter of Zara's brother, Peter Phillips.
The royal portrait also includes Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Savannah Phillips, and Mia.
Mia is one of the ten great-grandchildren Prince Philip had at the time of his passing.
Just over a month before the Duke's death, two more great-grandchildren were born, both named in honor of him.
Princess Eugenie, 31, and Zara Tindall, 39, paid tribute to their grandfather by giving their babies names that include “Philip.”
Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank named their first child August Philip Hawk Brooksbank, born on February 9th, making him the ninth great-grandchild of the Queen and Duke.
A month later, Zara and Mike decided to name their third child and first son Lucas Philip Tindall.
Unfortunately, due to safety restrictions during lockdown, it is believed that Prince Philip never had the opportunity to meet these two great-grandsons.
Zara gave birth to her third son in her bathroom on March 21st after being unable to make it to the hospital.
The baby boy was born healthy, weighing eight pounds and four ounces.
Following the dramatic birth, the Queen and Prince Philip released a statement expressing their delight and anticipation of meeting their tenth great-grandchild when circumstances allow.
Last Friday at midday, Queen Elizabeth announced the passing of her beloved husband, Prince Philip, as flags were lowered to half-mast at Buckingham Palace.
In a statement, the royal family expressed deep sorrow and announced that the Prince had passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle.
Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements would be made in due course.
The royal family, along with people around the world, mourned the loss of Prince Philip.
His funeral took place on Saturday at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only 30 close family members and friends were in attendance, which ironically aligns with what Prince Philip would have preferred.
