Sophie Wessex Relieved to No Longer Have to Curtsy to Meghan Markle
Sophie Wessex, the wife of Prince Edward, is reportedly pleased and relieved that she no longer has to curtsy to Meghan Markle.
With her new title as the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie now ranks higher in the royal hierarchy than the Duchess of Sussex and is no longer required to show this traditional gesture of respect when they meet.
A close friend of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh shared with the Daily Mail that Sophie is relieved to be free from curtsying to someone who not only left royal duties but also spent the past three years criticizing the institution that Sophie has worked so hard to support.
According to a body language expert, it appears that Sophie has chosen her side since Prince Harry and Meghan left the UK in 2020.
The Daily Express reports that by analyzing the body language of Harry, Meghan, and Sophie in the past, one photograph from the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June last year stood out to body language expert Judy James.
In the photo, Harry and Meghan are seen arriving at their seats inside St Paul's Cathedral for the Thanksgiving service.
While Prince Andrew greets them with a smile, Sophie is observed giving Harry a fierce look, according to Judy.
Judy further notes that Sophie was known for her calm, down-to-earth body language, while Harry was considered the fun prince.
Together, they showcased the natural and more human side of the royal family.
However, with Harry's departure from the UK and his continuous revelations from the US, Sophie's body language seems to indicate that she has firmly taken a side, and it's not Team Sussex.
Contrary to expectations, it seems that Sophie's husband, Prince Edward, is not the one distancing himself from Harry socially.
Instead, Sophie appears to have aligned herself against Harry and Meghan.
This observation adds weight to the current story suggesting that Sophie is relieved that her new title, the Duchess of Edinburgh, exempts her from curtsying to Harry and his wife.
Apart from her role as a peacemaker and calm presence within the royal family, Sophie has always been seen as a fiercely loyal royal.
She was deeply devastated by the deaths of Prince Philip and the Queen, according to Judy.
The body language expert also noticed Sophie's more hostile body language during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and Prince Philip's funeral in 2021.
During the funeral, Harry walked out alone and had to pass Sophie and their daughter.
Judy recalled the moment, saying it was hard not to feel sympathy for Harry, who was about to have an awkward conversation with his brother, Prince William, that Kate carefully orchestrated.
While it might have been expected for Sophie to make some effort to break the ice, she did not acknowledge Harry at all.
The news has sparked discussion among royal watchers.
