Sophie Wessex Could Become Duchess of Edinburgh as Prince Edward Takes on Duke of Edinburgh Title
Sophie Wessex, the Countess of Wessex, could potentially become the Duchess of Edinburgh if her husband, Prince Edward, takes on the title of Duke of Edinburgh.
This new title for Sophie is the same courtesy title that was held by the Queen from her wedding in 1947 until her ascension to the throne in 1952.
It seems that the palace is actively promoting Sophie Wessex into a more prominent royal role.
According to royal correspondent Roya Nika, the royal editor for the Sunday Times, the Countess of Wessex is gaining more visibility and influence.
There were concerns that Sophie would be sidelined under King Charles' plan for a streamlined monarchy.
However, Ms. Nika reassures us that Sophie's place is secure and that the Wessexes are now being pushed to the forefront.
She explains, “There's a lot of discussion around Sophie.
We're suddenly seeing the Wessexes come to the fore.
We are paying them more attention.”
Sophie has been involved in important work for over a decade, particularly in the areas of s**ual violence, conflict prevention, and blindness prevention.
In the past week, Sophie has embarked on a solo royal tour to Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda.
Her visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo marks the first time a member of the royal family has visited the country.
This trip had been planned for several months prior to the Queen's passing.
During her time in the Congo, the Countess of Wessex addressed the issue of s**ual and gender-based violence in conflict, a cause that is close to her heart.
Additionally, she celebrated Malawi's achievement in eliminating trachoma, an infectious disease that can lead to blindness.
Sophie revealed that her late mother-in-law, the Queen, was delighted to hear this news.
