Sophie and Edward’s Reaction to Harry and Meghan’s Oprah Interview Raises Eyebrows
In a recent turn of events, Omid Scobie, a prominent figure in royal reporting, has accused Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, of mishandling their response to Harry and Meghan's explosive interview with Oprah.
During their first major interview together in over two decades, the couple, who were then known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex, spoke to the Telegraph.
When asked about their thoughts on the bombshell sit-down, they jokingly asked Oprah who and what interview, suggesting that they were not familiar with the show.
Sophie even remarked that if someone is not into chat shows, there is no reason for them to know who Oprah is, especially in their country.
However, Scobie believes that their comments about Oprah, who is widely regarded as one of the most successful black women in the world and a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, portrayed the royal couple as out of touch at best and casually bigoted at worst.
He sees this incident as yet another example of recent missteps made by Sophie and Edward, further tarnishing their public image.
Scobie goes on to suggest that their apparent ignorance reflects a deeper issue within the monarchy itself, painting it as an intolerant institution steeped in privilege and bigotry.
Scobie also takes a dig at the couple's attempt to gain media attention during their trip to the Cayman Islands in February of this year.
According to him, their excursion failed to capture the interest of Western press and only received coverage in local publications such as the Cayman Compass and Cayman News Service.
In fact, Scobie recalls a conversation with a top editor from Fleet Street who expressed doubt about the couple's ability to make headlines, remarking that they would have better luck putting their own mother on the front page.
The author further criticizes Sophie and Edward's visit to Antigua in March 2022, suggesting that their actions were insincere and performative.
He claims that they smiled and waved to the audience while demanding apologies and reparatory justice for Britain's historical colonization of the Caribbean.
Scobie also highlights a moment during the late Queen's state funeral outside Westminster Abbey, where Sophie seemingly ignored Meghan Markle.
This incident, according to royal fans, indicates that Meghan still holds a grudge against Sophie for her role in escorting her out of the UK.
The Royal Grift, a YouTube channel dedicated to royal news, supports the notion that Meghan was ordered to leave the UK by the late Queen herself.
It is alleged that with the consent of senior members of the royal family, including Sophie and Edward, the Queen expelled Meghan.
This, the channel claims, is the reason behind Meghan's ongoing resentment towards the royal family.
It has now come to light that Meghan was escorted out of London's National Theatre by royal security before the couple announced their plans to split their time between the UK and North America.
Meghan's visit to the theatre, where she held a patronage, coincided with discussions about their future options.
However, photos have resurfaced showing Meghan being formally escorted from the theatre as she believed she had a meeting with Queen Elizabeth.
The meeting was reportedly canceled by the Queen, who had intended to discuss matters with Meghan.
As the situation unfolded, Meghan was taken to the airport with only two bags of belongings from Frogmore, leaving behind a diary that remained untouched at the residence.
She was accompanied by royal protectors on the plane, where she was bid farewell by Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward, who ensured a smooth departure.
