Royal Photographer Reveals the Challenges of Working with Meghan Markle
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is known for her strong personality and high standards.
Recently, royal photographer Alexey Lubomirsky shared his experience of working with the Duchess and the difficulties he faced during their collaboration.
From their engagement to their wedding, Harry and Meghan have been open about their personal lives, and Lubomirsky has been the man behind many of the iconic photographs we have seen.
Lubomirsky was taken aback when he received a phone call from the palace offering him the opportunity of a lifetime.
Initially, he thought it was a prank.
“When I got off the phone, I said, I think Kensington Palace just called me.
Two days later, I was sitting in front of Harry and Meghan talking concepts,” Lubomirsky revealed in an interview with People magazine in May 2023.
At the time, Lubomirsky had a lot going on personally.
His mother was undergoing successful surgery for a brain tumor.
Despite these challenges, he threw himself into capturing the perfect shot of the newly engaged couple.
After announcing their engagement, Harry and Meghan posed for photos at Frogmore House in Windsor, as reported by BBC News.
Lubomirsky anticipated that working with Meghan would be difficult due to her involvement in the art field and her specific standards and requirements for each project.
However, once they started working together, things turned out better than expected.
The Duchess had numerous ideas and wanted Lubomirsky to experiment with each one and provide feedback.
One of Meghan's ideas was to recreate a set of photos inspired by Audrey Hepburn and her husband.
After some hesitation, this idea was chosen and brought to life.
For one particular photo, Lubomirsky drew inspiration from an image of Audrey Hepburn and her husband, where Hepburn was wrapped in her husband's overcoat.
He suggested Harry wear his overcoat for the shot, and everything fell into place.
The result was a romantic photo of Meghan nestled against her future husband, enveloped in his coat, with her engagement ring prominently displayed.
This photo remains one of the most iconic images of the Duke and Duchess.
When asked about the responsibility of capturing these important moments, Lubomirsky expressed his honor but also acknowledged the challenges he faced.
“Of course, it's an honor, but it has been a tough challenge for me so far.
The standards and requirements are set very high,” he admitted.
Fortunately, the Duchess was ultimately satisfied with the final product.
However, shooting the royal wedding brought even more anxiety for Lubomirsky.
He revealed that during that time, he only managed to get about two hours of sleep each day to ensure everything was perfectly set up.
The pressure was immense, but Lubomirsky rose to the occasion and delivered stunning photographs of the historic event.
In addition to Lubomirsky's account, a videographer who had worked closely with Meghan before she met Prince Harry shared some insights into her demanding nature.
The videographer mentioned that Meghan would bring a large entourage with her on set and had strict rules, such as not filming her feet.
It was clear to the videographer's team that Meghan had a strong aversion to her feet being captured on camera.
Furthermore, Meghan insisted on using expensive champagne for the shoot and demanded full approval over all the footage.
According to the videographer, Meghan exhibited high maintenance behavior and sometimes acted like a superstar.
Despite the challenges and demands, Lubomirsky and his team managed to capture the essence of Harry and Meghan's love story through their photographs.
Their collaboration resulted in timeless images that will forever be cherished by the royal couple and their admirers worldwide.
