Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away, Royal Titles Shift Except for Prince Harry
Queen Elizabeth II, the beloved monarch of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms, sadly passed away at Balmoral on Thursday.
Her death has brought about significant changes within the British royal family, particularly in terms of official titles and roles.
Immediately following the Queen's passing on September 8, Prince Charles, who had served as the Prince of Wales for over six decades, assumed the role of King.
He is now known as King Charles III, the new ruler of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms.
As per custom, Camilla Parker Bowles, the wife of the monarch, will now be styled as Queen Consort.
However, this was not always the expected outcome for Charles' second wife.
Initially, there were assumptions that she would take on the title of Princess Consort.
Yet, Queen Elizabeth II clarified her wish earlier in February, and Camilla will now be referred to as Queen Consort.
With the heir apparent taking on his new role, the line of succession has shifted.
Prince William, previously the second in line to the British throne, is now next in line to inherit the crown.
Alongside this change, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, have also received new royal titles.
Their official accounts on Twitter and Instagram were updated on Thursday, reflecting their new status as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge.
However, they have yet to become the Prince and Princess of Wales, a title that is expected to be bestowed upon them in the future.
According to BBC, the Prince of Wales title is not automatically conferred upon the heir apparent and must be granted by his father.
King Charles III himself became the Prince of Wales in 1958, with his investiture taking place in 1969.
Furthermore, Prince William and Kate Middleton's three children, who are currently second, third, and fourth in line to the British throne, are also anticipated to receive new royal titles.
Royal expert Marlene Koenig revealed to Express UK that they will become the Prince and Princess of Cornwall and Cambridge.
However, once their father assumes the title of Prince of Wales, their names and titles will align accordingly.
In contrast, it is believed that no apparent changes will occur in the names and titles of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
As the nation mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, preparations are underway for her state funeral on Monday, September 19.
Floral tributes have been left at various locations throughout Britain, with Hillsborough Castle, the Royal Residence in Northern Ireland, serving as a focal point.
The castle has temporarily closed its doors to the public today for the reading of the accession proclamation of the new king, Charles III, accompanied by a 21-gun salute.
Additionally, tributes have been left at the British Embassy in Dublin, Ireland, where Princess Elizabeth made a historic visit in 2011.
Floral tributes continue to be laid outside the embassy, and Ambassador Paul Johnston expressed gratitude for the outpouring of condolences.
The embassy has opened a book of condolence, which has already been signed by President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Micheal Martin, and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney during their visit on Friday to pay their respects.
Members of the public can sign the book of condolence at the embassy on Merrion Street from 10am to 4pm next Monday to Friday.
The signing of the book of condolence by President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Michael Martin, and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney marks a solemn tribute from Ireland to the late Queen.
As the nation bids farewell to Queen Elizabeth II, the royal family adjusts to their new roles and titles.
The transition signifies a significant moment in British history and prompts reflection on the enduring legacy of the beloved monarch.
