Proposed Bill Could Strip Duke and Duchess of Sussex of Royal Titles

A new bill proposed by a Labour MP has the potential to strip and Meghan Markle, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, of their royal titles.

Despite their estrangement from the royal family, the couple has managed to retain their titles thus far.

However, if this private member's bill passes in Parliament, it could give III the authority to revoke their privileges.

This decision would be at the King's discretion or based on a formal recommendation from the United Kingdom's government.

The news of this proposed bill coincides with III's request for an amendment to the Regency Act.

The amendment would appoint and as councillors of the state.

Currently, and hold these responsibilities, but their strained relationship with the monarchy has rendered them inactive in performing royal duties.

Therefore, it seems fitting for King Charles III to consider removing Prince Harry's title as the Duke of Sussex.

This decision would undoubtedly impact Meghan Markle and their children as well.

Prince Harry's lack of involvement in royal duties for an extended period supports the argument for his title removal.

The couple has been residing in the United States and only made a brief visit to the UK following the passing of II.

Their focus has shifted towards building a media empire, starting with the upcoming Netflix docuseries set to premiere in December.

Currently, King Charles III lacks the authority to strip any member of the royal family of their titles.

This bill proposes the necessary changes to grant him such power.

Rachel Maskell, the MP for York, is the Labour Party politician behind this initiative.

The bill, known as the removal of titles bill, is scheduled for a second reading in the House of Commons on December 9.

Interestingly, this proposal did not originate from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle themselves.

It was the residents of York who urged Maskell to propose the bill, with the specific intention of removing 's Duke of York title.

Following the public exposure of Prince Andrew's scandals, the residents of York want no association with him.

Removing a dukedom is no simple task, as evident when II was unable to strip her own son of the title, despite revoking his other honors.

This legislation aims to grant the monarch or a committee of Parliament the power to remove titles from individuals as they see fit.

Consequently, this could indirectly impact the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
