Princess Little Bit Diana’s Christening: A Break from Royal Tradition

On International Women's Day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a special announcement.

Their daughter, Princess Little Bit Diana, had been christened.

The christening took place on March 3rd in an intimate ceremony at the Sussex's Montecito home.

Despite the absence of her grandfather, , and her uncle, , senior members of the royal family were invited to attend.

Marie Claire reported that Lady Jane, Phyllis, and Lady Sarah McClordale, the sisters of the late , were present at the gathering.

Both and have maintained a close relationship with their aunts and uncle on their mother's side since Diana's tragic death in 1997.

In fact, Lady Jane even gave an emotional reading from the Song of Solomon at Harry's wedding to Meghan in 2018.

The Duke of Sussex was last seen alongside his aunts in 2021 when he and William unveiled a statue of their late mother at Kensington Palace, warmly greeting them with a kiss.

Tyler Perry, who was named Little Bit's godparent, added a touch of Hollywood glamour to the christening.

He flew in a 10-person gospel choir to Los Angeles for the occasion.

The group performed “Oh Happy Day” and “This Little Light of Mine,” which were also sung at Harry and Meghan's wedding in 2018.

Perry, known for his generosity, famously loaned the Sussexes his £18 million Beverly Hills mansion in 2020.

Princess Little Bit Diana's christening deviated from royal tradition.

Normally, young members of the royal family receive their christening at either Buckingham Palace or Windsor, but the Sussexes chose to hold the ceremony in California.

The spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed the christening on International Women's Day, stating that it was officiated by the Bishop of Los Angeles, Rev.

John Taylor.

The event was attended by 25 guests, as reported by People magazine.

While senior members of the royal family were unable to attend due to their busy schedules, they were said to be together in Santa Grim.

The Sussexes' two children, and Little Bit, were given their official royal titles of Prince and Princess on the occasion of the christening.

They now hold the titles of Prince and Princess of Sussex and are sixth and seventh in line to the throne, respectively.

Previously, they were listed as Master Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Little Bit Mountbatten-Windsor on the royal family's official website.

The christening of Princess Little Bit Diana was a small and private affair, attended only by close family and friends.

The presence of 's aunt, Lady Jane Fellows, and Lady Sarah McClodale held special significance due to their close relationship with the late .

Tyler Perry's involvement as a godparent and the inclusion of a choir added a touch of Hollywood glamour to the proceedings.

The Sussexes continue to forge their own path and make their own rules when it comes to their royal duties.
