Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank Cancel Baby’s Christening, Queen’s Attendance Affected
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have made the difficult decision to cancel their baby's christening, an event that was supposed to be attended by the Queen.
The ceremony for their first child, August, who was born on February 9, was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park.
Less than 30 people were invited to the ceremony, followed by a reception at Royal Lodge.
However, plans were abruptly changed after one of the guests reportedly tested positive for the virus.
The Queen, aged 95, had eagerly anticipated attending the christening and the subsequent after-party for her great-grandson.
Other notable attendees on the guest list were Princess Eugenie's proud parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who were set to host the after-party.
August's parents, Eugenie (31) and Jack Brooksbank (35), were naturally looking forward to the event as well.
Princess Beatrice (32) and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mosi (38), who are expecting their first child, were also expected to be present.
According to a source cited by The Sun, one of the guests either tested positive for Covid or received a notification due to contact tracing.
Consequently, the decision was made to cancel the christening service and the reception party that was to follow at Royal Lodge, which is Prince Andrew's residence.
The Queen, Eugenie's parents, and Fergie and Prince Andrew had all made plans to attend.
In February, the Express reported that Eugenie and Jack intended to have August christened in a replica of a gown that was 160 years old.
The original Honiton lace christening gown was specially commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert for their daughter, Princess Victoria, in 1841.
Both the Queen and Prince Charles wore the gown for their own christenings in 1926 and 1948, respectively.
However, due to wear and tear, the Royal Family stopped using the gown in 2004.
Nevertheless, the Queen reportedly arranged for a replica to be made, and since then, all Royal babies have worn it.
August was born on February 9 at the Portland Hospital in London and is currently 12th in line to the throne.
Since his birth, Princess Eugenie has been sharing adorable photos of her son on social media.
On Mother's Day, she posted a picture of August lying on a blanket in a field of daffodils, wearing fluffy bunny slippers.
