Princess Charlotte’s Destiny Altered Forever by Late Queen’s Decision
Princess Charlotte, the first female royal in history to benefit from a significant change to a long-standing royal tradition, has had her destiny forever altered.
She, along with other female royals born after her, was saved from an outdated and unconstitutional law, which ultimately had a positive impact on their futures.
Born in May 2015, Princess Charlotte currently holds the third position in the line of royal succession, following behind Prince William and Prince George.
Her life was influenced by a legacy left behind by her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth Ewe.
The queen had introduced the Succession of the Crown Act in 2013, two years before Charlotte's birth, ensuring that all royal children, regardless of gender, have an equal right to the throne.
Unlike Princess Anne, born in 1950, who faced the traditional male primogeniture system that favored sons over daughters, Princess Charlotte was not subjected to such limitations.
Princess Anne, being only a few years younger than her older brother, the current King Charles, saw herself pushed down the line of succession as her two younger brothers, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, were born.
However, with the enactment of the Succession of the Crown Act, the birth of Prince Louis in April 2018 solidified Princess Charlotte's position in the line of succession.
Iain McMarthan, a constitutional expert, explained that the 2013 act aimed to modernize and eliminate discriminatory laws related to the monarchy, including the removal of male primogeniture.
The Succession of the Crown Act effectively made the firstborn child, regardless of gender, the direct heir to the throne.
