Princess Anne Honored as Most Popular Royal Family Member During Visit to Cyprus
Princess Anne, also known as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Logistic Corps, has been on a visit to Cyprus this week, making several public appearances.
She was recently honored as the most popular member of the Royal family, according to a poll conducted by YouGov.
The survey revealed that 72% of Britons hold a positive opinion of the Princess Royal.
During her visit to Cyprus, Princess Anne met with military personnel from her regiment at the Cilia Garrison, which serves under the peacekeeping force in Cyprus.
The Cilia Garrison is one of the two military bases that the UK retained after Cyprus gained independence from British rule in 1960.
As part of her visit, Princess Anne had the privilege of officially opening the newly built Queen Beringeria School in the Cilia.
This event was viewed as a great honor by members of the British Forces Cyprus.
The British Forces Cyprus expressed their delight on Twitter, stating, “Delighted to welcome HRH, the Princess Royal, to officially open the Queen Beringeria School in the Cilia today.
A great honor for everyone here in BFC.”
The Queen Beringeria School caters to British military communities in the Cilia and Aeos Nicolaos regions of Cyprus.
Princess Anne also took the opportunity to visit various areas of the Cyprus buffer zone and Nicosia, including the Ledro Palace Hotel and the abandoned Nicosia International Airport.
Additionally, she paid her respects at the Wayne's Keep Military Cemetery in Nicosia, where a service of remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony took place.
President Nikos Anastasiades of the Republic of Cyprus expressed his pleasure in receiving Princess Anne during their meeting.
He emphasized their shared aspiration to further develop and strengthen the historical ties and enduring bonds between Cyprus and the UK, both bilaterally and within the Commonwealth family.
Despite recent controversies surrounding the Royal family, Princess Anne's popularity has remained steady.
This is in contrast to Prince Harry, whose recent activities have significantly damaged his favorability rating.
According to a poll, Prince Harry's favorability rating reached an all-time low of minus 44, with approximately 70% of Britons holding a negative opinion of him.
During her visit, Princess Anne also had a meeting with President Anastasiades, where they discussed various important issues such as climate change, efforts to reunify Cyprus, and energy problems arising from the war in Ukraine.
The President presented Princess Anne with a silver replica of a cup from the 4th century BC, as well as a photo album featuring images of Cypriots who fought for the British during World War II.
The British High Commissioner to Cyprus, Irfan Siddiq, highlighted the significance of the visit, stating that it provided an important opportunity to showcase the enduring links between the two countries.
Princess Anne's public appearances come in the wake of Prince Harry's scathing attacks against senior Royals, particularly Prince William and Camilla, in a series of interviews.
The YouGov poll revealed a four-point decrease in the number of people holding positive views about Camilla.
