Prince William Receives Special Birthday Gift from Royals as He Turns 41
Prince William, the future king, was honored with a heartwarming birthday gift from the royal family as he celebrated his 41st birthday on June 21st.
In a tradition reserved for the most senior members of the company, the bells of Westminster Abbey rang to mark the occasion.
Once a popular royal tradition, the ringing of the bells now only takes place for the birthdays of the four senior members of the royal family: Prince William and his wife, Kate, the Princess of Wales, King Charles, and Queen Camilla.
However, in recent years, due to the financial constraints and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the royal birthday bells have been silent.
In the past, the bells would chime for 12 royal birthdays, including those of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, their children Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Duchess of Cornwall Camilla, and Prince William and Kate's three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
However, in 2022, they will only ring four times a year, coinciding with the birthdays of the late Queen and now King Charles, as well as Kate's birthday on January 9th and the upcoming birthdays of the Queen and King on July 17th and November 14th, respectively.
Westminster Abbey took to Twitter to extend their wishes to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, on his special day.
The abbey's bell ringers performed a sequence of 541 changes of Stedman caters followed by a cycle of London Surprise Royal, accompanied by a two-minute video of the chimes to celebrate the future king's birthday.
King Charles himself also shared a heartfelt message for his eldest son's birthday on Twitter.
He posted a photo of the two of them taken during his coronation last month, capturing a tender moment between father and son as William appeared to assist Charles with his coronation outfit.
The post was captioned, “I wish the Prince of Wales a very happy birthday today,” followed by a balloon emoji.
In a recent royal precedent on social media, it was revealed that birthday messages will only be shared for working royals.
This means that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not receive public birthday greetings when they celebrate their birthdays later this year.
As Prince William celebrated his 41st birthday, he received a special gift from the royal family in the form of the ringing bells of Westminster Abbey.
