Prince William Goes Incognito for Morning Run in Central Park
Like a true New Yorker, Prince William joined the hordes in Central Park for a low-key Tuesday morning run.
Without the press, bodyguards, or pap walks, the future king quietly set off around 7am local time, unnoticed by the public.
The Prince of Wales, awake despite the jet lag from the UK being five hours ahead, started his day with an early workout.
It's commendable that he goes about his activities without seeking attention and deserves respect for all he is doing and will do in the future.
During the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit at the Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, Prince William appeared on stage for a fireside chat.
Vitea Cohen, a previous winner of the prize, asked him if it was true that he had gone running in Central Park that morning.
Prince William confirmed, saying, “I did, Vitea, yes.
I decided to join the hordes of New Yorkers doing their morning routine.”
He also mentioned how wonderful it was to wake up in New York to a sunny morning, a pleasant change from the previous day's rain.
Breathing in the fresh air during his run must have been a beautiful experience for him.
The morning run marked the beginning of a busy day for Prince William.
Apart from his fireside chat at the summit, the Earthshot Prize revealed the 15 finalists for this year's contest.
Five of these finalists will receive awards during the prize ceremony in Singapore on November 7.
Explaining why Singapore was chosen as the location this year, Prince William stated, “We want to get around the world.
We want to see solutions in different places.
We want to work with those existing ones while opening new chapters, new areas.”
Prince William has a history of visiting the United States.
In 2014, he and Princess Catherine toured New York, attending a basketball game at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and visiting the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan.
Last December, he visited Boston for the 2022 Earthshot Prize Awards.
As the co-founder of the Earthshot Prize in 2020, Prince William aims to recognize companies and projects that focus on climate solutions.
During his two-day tour, he also visited the Billion Oysters Project, which aims to restore reefs in New York City's harbor.
On Tuesday, Prince William made a special visit to an FDNY firehouse.
While his overseas tour primarily focused on environmental issues and meetings at the United Nations, this firehouse visit highlighted another cause close to his heart—the mental well-being of first responders.
The Prince of Wales has dedicated much of his time to supporting emergency workers, from first responders to care teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Drawing from his own experiences as an air ambulance helicopter pilot and an RAF search and rescue pilot, he understands the importance of prioritizing their mental health.
Prince William's low-key morning run in Central Park serves as a reminder of his down-to-earth nature and commitment to leading a balanced life.
