Prince William and Duchess Catherine Steal the Show at Royal Ascot
Prince William and his wife Catherine made a surprise appearance on the fourth day of Royal Ascot, the renowned British horse riding event.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge led the royal family in the carriage processional at the iconic horse race.
Dressed in a top hat and tailcoat, William looked dashing while Catherine wore a brown and white polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich, paired with a hat featuring floral details by Sally Anne Proven.
They rode in the first carriage, which appeared at the top of the course and traveled along the famous track.
Adding to her elegant ensemble, Catherine accessorized with South Sea Pearl earrings that once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
The late princess often wore these jewels during the 1990s.
William, on the other hand, looked sharp in a morning suit with a top hat and a light blue patterned tie as he arrived alongside Catherine in the carriage.
This marked a first for the royal couple, as they had never been in the first carriage as part of the Ascot Royal procession.
It was also their first appearance at the event this year, as members of the royal family usually attend during the first three days of the five-day event.
Previously, Prince Charles and Camilla attended the first two days of the event, leading the royal procession in the first carriage.
As a sign of respect for the absent Queen, they left an empty space in the carriage.
However, for Friday's event, William and Catherine decided to invite two special guests to share the carriage with them.
The Honourable Arthur George Vestey, whose elder brother is a close friend of the Duke and a fellow Old Etonian, and his wife Martha joined the royal couple.
Arthur's late father, Lord Vestey, served as master of the horse to the Queen and would often ride in Her Majesty's carriage.
This gesture by William and Catherine was praised by royal commentator Richard Eden as “lovely.”
On their way to the racecourse, William and Catherine were seen engaging in deep conversations with their guests.
Despite the blustery weather, they managed to keep their hats in place as they nearly became displaced.
As their carriage entered the racecourse and passed in front of the enclosures, Catherine smiled widely and waved to the enthusiastic crowd of fans who had been waiting for hours.
The only other member of the royal family to take part in the procession that day was Princess Anne's son, Peter Phillips, accompanied by his new girlfriend, Lindsay Wallace.
They shared a carriage with the Duke and Duchess of Bedford.
Throughout the event, Catherine and William shared adorable moments, catching each other's loving gazes.
Fans of the royal couple took to social media to express their excitement.
One fan wrote, “Thank God for William and Catherine!
What a heart-warming sight of the beautiful couple!”
Another user, Carmen Ruby, expressed her love for the couple, saying, “I just love them, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
They seem to enjoy themselves.
God bless them!”
The appearance of William and Catherine at Royal Ascot comes as the couple prepares for a busy summer.
William will be celebrating his milestone 40th birthday on June 21st, and the family is planning to relocate to a new residence in Berkshire, near Windsor Castle.
Notably absent from the royal ascot on Friday was the Queen, who has yet to attend the event this year.
This marked the fourth consecutive day that the 96-year-old monarch was absent from one of her favorite events.
Due to her ongoing mobility issues, palace sources cannot confirm her attendance until shortly before the event.
The Queen, known for her love of horses, has attended every single royal ascot for the past seven decades and often has her own horses competing.
The only exception was in 2020 when the event was held behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement issued at the start of the race event, the Queen welcomed the full-capacity crowds back to the course for the first time since 2019.
She also praised the planting of new trees as a tribute to her jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.
Despite the Queen's absence, Prince William and Duchess Catherine stole the show with their elegance and charm, leaving a lasting impression on the spectators at Royal Ascot.
