Prince William and Catherine Opt for Commercial Flight, Surprising Passengers
In a surprising turn of events, Prince William and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales, were spotted taking a British Airways flight like any other traveler.
The couple, known for their royal status and access to private aircraft, decided to forego the luxury of a private jet and experience the mundane aspects of air travel that the rest of us face.
On a recent trip abroad, fellow passenger James, who happened to be seated behind the British Royal, recounted the unexpected moment.
“Everyone was on the plane, and suddenly Prince William got on and sat in the front.
We knew something was going on because all these security guards got on board,” he said.
Eventually, Prince William appeared at the front of the plane, placing his own black sports bag in the overhead locker.
The surprise continued when the Princess of Wales, Catherine, joined the flight in her pale blue Catherine Walker suit.
With her hair neatly pulled back into a chic bun, she seemed to channel an air hostess look.
Passengers were taken aback as bodyguards escorted her onto the plane, and she settled into the front row.
The New Zealand Herald reported that cell phones went up like crazy as passengers scrambled to capture a photograph of the Princess.
Throughout the quick 50-minute flight, Catherine maintained a low profile, engaging in conversation with a member of her team.
When the plane landed a few minutes early at London City Airport, she was the first to be escorted off the aircraft.
Awaiting her on the tarmac was a car, ready to whisk her away before other passengers were allowed to disembark.
The decision to opt for commercial air travel is not entirely surprising, considering the optics involved.
Handing out awards to individuals working towards saving the planet while flying in a transatlantic private jet would have raised eyebrows.
While flying itself is not environmentally friendly, commercial air travel is a better option compared to private jets.
According to a 2021 report from the European Transport Campaign Group, Transport and Environment, private jets are 5 to 14 times more polluting than commercial planes, per passenger.
It seems that even members of the royal family understand the importance of making conscious choices when it comes to the environment.
