Prince Harry Reconnects with Brother William and Sister-in-Law Catherine at Prince Philip’s Farewell Ceremony
Prince Harry was spotted engaging in a heartfelt conversation with his brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Catherine, as they departed from St George's Chapel following the farewell ceremony for their grandfather, Prince Philip, on Saturday.
Although the brothers walked behind their grandfather's coffin as it made its way towards St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, they were separated by their cousin, Peter Philips.
Throughout the ceremony, they were also unable to sit close together.
However, once the proceedings concluded, Harry approached William and Catherine, initiating a conversation.
Initially, Harry was seen conversing with Catherine as they exited the chapel and embarked on their walk.
However, she then stepped back, allowing him to have a few moments alone with William.
This interaction occurred while cars were waiting to transport them back to Windsor Castle.
Nevertheless, the trio chose to defy convention and opted to walk back to the Queen's residence together, fully aware of the cameras capturing their every move.
CNN's royal commentator, Victoria Arbiter, emphasized that this decision would bring comfort to the Queen, especially after the family had been separated within the chapel due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Arbiter explained that vehicles were available to transport the royals back to the castle, but they deliberately chose to walk as a united family.
After being apart during the ceremony, their ability to come together provided solace to the Queen.
This display of solidarity, following a tumultuous year, offered a glimpse of reconciliation for the formerly close-knit trio.
According to a source who spoke with the Daily Star, William and Harry discussed cherished memories of their beloved grandfather during their conversation.
Brittany Barger from Royal Central expressed her appreciation for seeing William, Harry, and the Duchess of Cambridge engaging in dialogue.
Barger suggested that somber occasions like Philip's funeral have the potential to bring people together, paving the way for reconciliation between William and Harry.
She added, “I thought it was nice to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chatting with the Duke of Sussex as they walked back to Windsor Castle.
They are all in mourning right now, and sad moments like these can help with reconciliation.
William and Harry are brothers, and I'm sure they were talking about their memories with their beloved grandfather.
We can only hope this is the beginning of repairing their relationship.”
The poignant service on Saturday marked the first public appearance of the brothers together since March of last year.
Harry, who currently resides in California with his wife Meghan Markle and their son Archie Harrison, returned to the UK specifically for his grandfather's funeral.
Prior to the ceremony on April 17, both William and Harry walked behind their grandfather's coffin in a procession.
The Queen's eldest grandson, Peter Phillips, walked between the royal siblings as they followed Prince Philip's casket.
Earlier this year, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his relationship with his brother during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
