Prince Harry Faces Backlash Over Controversial Interviews
Prince Harry has been met with a wave of criticism following a series of controversial interviews with American media.
After his bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview alongside Meghan Markle, Harry's support among both American and British people has plummeted.
Charlie Ray, former Royal Editor at The Sun, expressed his views on TalkRadio, stating, “This guy was a hero in Britain and now he is the zero, I'm afraid.
His popularity has gone right down.”
One poll revealed that 54% of people simply wished Prince Harry would stop speaking.
Radio host Kevin O'Sullivan added, “The popularity polls for him and Meghan on both sides of the Atlantic are plummeting.
He made the serious mistake a couple weeks back of questioning America's sacred First Amendment — which is about freedom of speech.
Americans do not take kindly to interlopers who turn up in their country and criticize it.”
Mr. Ray further emphasized the backlash Harry faced in America, saying, “There has been an awful lot of traffic on social media from Americans saying if you don't like it here, head off back.”
A recent Newsweek poll also indicated that over half of Britons want to hear less from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
Among those surveyed, 54% preferred to hear less about the couple, while only 18% wanted to hear more.
This sentiment was particularly strong among older individuals, with just 11% of those over 65 expressing a desire to hear more from the Duke and Duchess, while 71% wished to know less.
Additionally, 39% disapproved of Prince Harry speaking publicly about his royal upbringing, compared to 36% who approved.
Furthermore, Harry's comments on the First Amendment during a podcast with Dax Shepard sparked significant backlash in the United States.
Sean Hannity, anchor of the third largest evening news show in the U.S., launched into a tirade, referring to Harry as a “right royal pain in the a**.”
Amber Athey, Washington editor of the Spectator US, urged the UK to take Harry back, stating, “The UK is one of the top ten exporters to the U.S. As an American, in the words of former President Donald Trump, you all are not sending your best.
I would beg you, please take Prince Harry back.”
Even before these recent interviews, negative opinions of Harry and Meghan's decision to leave the royal family were prevalent.
A survey conducted after the Oprah Winfrey interview in March revealed that 44% of Americans did not sympathize with their choice, while 40% did.
Additionally, unfavorable ratings for Prince Harry rose by 9 points compared to the previous year, from 17% to 26%, and negative ratings for Meghan Markle increased by 10 points, from 23% to 33%.
In conclusion, Prince Harry has faced significant backlash following his series of controversial interviews.
Both British and American support has dwindled, with polls indicating a desire for less exposure to the couple.
Harry's comments on the First Amendment have further exacerbated the criticism, leading to calls for him to return to the UK.
These recent events have only added to the negative opinions surrounding Harry and Meghan's departure from the royal family.
