Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Face Accusations of Dishonesty
Black Lives Matter organizer Imarn Ayton has publicly stated that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been proven to be dishonest.
This comes in response to the Duke of Sussex's recent media appearances, where he denied accusing the royal family of racism during his interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
During an interview with ITV earlier this week, Prince Harry acknowledged that the royal family had displayed unconscious bias, alluding to the claim that an unnamed member expressed concerns about Archie's skin color.
When ITV's Tom Bradby mentioned that Harry had accused his family of racism, the Duke quickly denied it, stating that it was the British press who made that claim.
Discussing the matter on TalkTV, Imarn Ayton admitted that the couple had indeed been dishonest, but emphasized that they had still faced bullying and racism.
Ayton, a prominent organizer of the London demonstrations following George Floyd's death in 2020, stated, “I will humbly accept their dishonesty, but it does not negate the fact that Harry was bullied and harassed by the media.
It does not negate the fact that his wife had to endure racism.
It does not negate his right to defend himself when he feels wronged.”
Regarding evidence, Ayton acknowledged that certain aspects of the racism claims had been withheld, suggesting that the couple had backpedaled.
However, she argued that the absence of evidence should not be considered evidence of absence.
Although Prince Harry did not mention the Oprah interview in his memoir, he was asked by Bradby to promote his book during the interview.
When questioned if this could be seen as racist behavior, Harry responded, “I wouldn't say so, as I haven't lived within that family.
However, there is a distinction between racism and unconscious bias.
Once you become aware of your unconscious biases, whether as an individual or an institution, you have the opportunity to learn and grow from it, becoming part of the solution rather than the problem.”
Harry also accused Buckingham Palace of failing to follow through on promises made after the Oprah controversy, including the appointment of a diversity czar.
He believes that the monarchy can still have a place in the modern world if they address unconscious bias.
During an appearance on Good Morning America, Harry expressed his belief that there is a place for the British monarchy in the 21st century, albeit with significant changes.
He suggested that the same process he went through to confront his own unconscious bias would greatly benefit the institution.
He stressed the importance of addressing unconscious bias, as failure to do so could potentially lead to racism.
Additionally, he mentioned a missed opportunity involving his wife, without providing further details.
