Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Ban Another Friend: Jack Whitehall
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly severed ties with yet another friend, as comedian Jack Whitehall joins the list of those banned by the couple.
Whitehall revealed that he is no longer allowed to see the ex-royal after making a tongue-in-cheek joke about Prince Harry at the Royal Variety Performance.
The 33-year-old comedian, who spends a significant amount of time in Los Angeles near the couple, believes that his gag was the reason for being ostracized.
This incident adds to the growing list of celebrities and former friends whom Prince Harry has allegedly cut contact with since dating Meghan.
Last year, Usain Bolt admitted that he and the prince had severed ties due to Harry's rapid seriousness in his relationship with the duchess.
Furthermore, there are concerns among his old Etonian and military mates that a rift may be brewing with the couple, fearing that Harry might expose them in his upcoming book.
During his appearance at the London Palladium in the West End this week, Jack Whitehall expressed his concern that his 2015 joke led to him being shunned by the couple.
He was promoting his new book, “How to Survive the Summer Holidays,” alongside his mother Hilary, 59, and father Michael, 81.
According to The Sun, Michael said, “Jack, I read a book recently that changed my life.
I thought I must become a writer myself.”
He continued, “This book is called ‘The Bench' and it's written by Meghan Markle.”
The children's book, released in June, sold just 3,212 copies and was billed by the former actress as a love letter to her husband and son.
Michael further commented, “She presumably wrote it for Harry.
Yes, darling, just read it, okay?
There are only three lines per page, Harry.
Harry, it's all right.
That is your friend Harry.
Except you are not allowed to see him anymore.
You have been banned and ostracized from the Sussexes.”
Jack Whitehall confirmed, “I think I have been banned because I called him ginger nuts at the Royal Variety.”
Jack had been friends with Prince Harry for years, as they both moved in the same social circles due to their education at Marlborough College.
However, despite attending Princess Eugenie's wedding a few months later, he was not invited to Harry and Meghan's wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018.
Jack Whitehall is not the only celebrity who has been cut off from the couple's life.
Usain Bolt also claimed to have been shunned in recent years.
The Duke and the Olympic legend became friends when Harry toured Jamaica on behalf of the Queen in 2012.
However, Bolt revealed last year that he was ghosted by the ex-royal after meeting Meghan.
He stated, “I think he got really serious, really quickly.
He is about married life and good for it now, so he has left that life behind.
I haven't talked to him in a while, but I still would like to keep in contact.”
In March 2012, Prince Harry visited Jamaica and met Usain Bolt at the Usain Bolt track at the University of the West Indies during a diamond jubilee tour.
The two posed together in Bolt's signature lightning bolt style, and Bolt even presented Harry with his own “Harry Can Bolt” t-shirt.
At the time, they engaged in playful banter, and Bolt graciously let the prince win when they raced on the track.
They exchanged friendly Twitter messages in 2016, with Harry challenging Bolt to a rematch of the race.
Additionally, days after Harry announced his engagement to Meghan in 2017, Bolt pledged to organize three stag parties for the royal before their wedding.
It has been previously reported that Prince Harry's friendship with several members of his former inner circle cooled or ended entirely after meeting Meghan.
In the lead-up to the wedding, Harry allegedly distanced himself from some of his old friends to avoid any temptations that Meghan might disapprove of.
