Prince Charles Mourns Father’s Death on Wedding Anniversary
Prince Charles received heartbreaking news on the day he was set to celebrate his wedding anniversary with Camilla.
His father, Prince Philip, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, April 9th, at Windsor Castle.
This day held a special significance for Prince Charles and Camilla, as they marked their 16th wedding anniversary.
The couple had tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall on April 9th, 2005.
They followed it with a Church of England service at St George's Chapel.
Usually, on their anniversary, Prince Charles and Camilla share a personal photograph and express gratitude to their well-wishers on social media.
However, this year, they refrained from doing so, understandably grieving the loss of Prince Philip.
Instead, they somberly reposted Buckingham Palace's announcement.
Buckingham Palace shared the sad news in a statement on Friday.
The statement, issued on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, read, “It is with our deepest sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
Further announcements will be made in due course.
The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
This tragic news comes just two weeks after Prince Charles and Camilla's visit to Greece, where they commemorated the 100th anniversary of Greece's war of independence against the Ottoman Empire.
During an official state dinner, Prince Charles had mentioned his father, expressing his delight at being back in Greece, a place that holds a special place in his heart due to his family's connection.
He spoke of his grandfather and his father's birth in Greece, as well as his grandmother, Princess Alice, who sheltered a Jewish family in Athens during the Nazi occupation.
In February, Prince Charles was captured in a tearful state as he arrived at King Edward VII's Hospital in London to visit his father, who was receiving treatment.
The Prince of Wales made a 200-mile round trip to be by his father's side, entering the hospital through the back entrance.
He wore a face mask as he walked from his car into the hospital, adhering to safety protocols.
The passing of Prince Philip is a significant loss not only for the Royal Family but also for people worldwide.
