Prince Andrew’s Comeback Plans: A Royal Future or a Lost Cause?
Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons lately.
From a televised comedy musical mocking his life to formal council petitions demanding the renaming of streets bearing his name, it seems that the public has had enough.
Despite this, Prince Andrew continues to make waves with his comeback plans, but is there any hope for him in the royal spotlight?
The Duke of York's downfall began with Virginia Roberts Guthrie's civil court case in the United States, where she accused him of s**ual assault.
Andrew has vehemently denied these allegations, but the damage had been done.
Forced to step back from his royal duties, he now seeks to return to the forefront and is reportedly exploring legal options to overturn the settlement.
However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes that Prince Andrew's age will work against him in his quest for a comeback.
At 62 years old, his popularity has plummeted to single digits, and even Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, is unlikely to come to his aid.
The recent bathtub stunt meant to improve his reputation was seen as nothing more than a farce.
Adding fuel to the fire, Maxwell herself claimed in an interview from her Florida prison that an image featuring herself, Prince Andrew, and Virginia Guthrie was faked.
Two acquaintances of Maxwell's brother appeared in the image wearing masks of Andrew and Guthrie, attempting to prove that the alleged s**ual encounter could not have taken place due to the size of the bathtub.
Public opinion of Prince Andrew is overwhelmingly negative, according to recent polling.
Only 7% of the surveyed adults have a positive view of him, while 19% hold a fairly negative view, and a staggering 67% view him very negatively.
These numbers indicate a severe decline in his standing among the public.
Although Andrew settled out of court with Guthrie in February of last year, with the case being dismissed by a Manhattan judge, rumors suggest that he is now considering legal action to overturn the settlement.
However, Fitzwilliams argues that such a move would only bring more attention to the matter and lacks any sign of humility or cooperation with the FBI, as previously promised.
The Queen herself reportedly suggested that Prince Andrew engage in charitable work to redeem himself, but there has been no indication of him heeding her advice.
With no admission of wrongdoing on his part, Andrew seems determined to avoid any form of penance.
So, what does the future hold for Prince Andrew?
Will he be able to make a triumphant return to the royal family, or is his fate sealed?
