Piers Morgan Credits Meghan Markle for His Success in Sports Journalism Awards
Piers Morgan, the renowned broadcaster, made headlines at the Sports Journalism Awards when he name-checked Meghan Markle during his acceptance speech.
Morgan was honored with the Scoop of the Year award on Monday evening, March 6th, for his interview with Cristiano Ronaldo.
While expressing gratitude to those who contributed to his achievement, Morgan took the opportunity to acknowledge Meghan as someone responsible for his success.
“I'd also like to thank Meghan Markle, without whom there wouldn't be talk TV,” Morgan stated, causing groans and audible expressions of discomfort among the audience, according to journalists present at the event.
The Independent has reached out to representatives for the Duchess of Sussex for comment on Morgan's statement.
It is no secret that Morgan has been a long-time critic of Meghan Markle.
He left his anchor position at Good Morning Britain following heavy criticism directed at him, the program, and ITV for his comments regarding Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During the interview, Meghan revealed her struggles with mental health and disclosed having suicidal thoughts while serving as an active member of the Royal Family.
Morgan publicly declared his disbelief in her statements, which sparked widespread outrage.
Amid calls for his dismissal, Morgan refused to apologize for his remarks, leading to his departure from Good Morning Britain.
However, he made a comeback in 2022 with his news and comment show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, on talk TV.
His first guest on the show was former US President Donald Trump, with whom he had engaged in numerous online disagreements.
Recently, two hosts of Piers Morgan Uncensored on Fox Nation, during an episode of Fox and Friends Monday, criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for their reaction after receiving an invitation to King Charles III's coronation.
Morgan suggested that the couple might attend the event solely to profit from it in future books or documentaries.
Despite ongoing tensions within the monarchy, King Charles III aims to bring his family together through this event.
According to the Sunday Times, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been invited to attend His Majesty's coronation in May.
However, it remains unclear whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be present at the ceremony.
The formal crowning of King Charles III will take place on May 6 at London's Westminster Abbey, coinciding with their son Archie's fourth birthday.
It is worth noting that Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal responsibilities in January 2020 and subsequently relocated to Canada before settling in Southern California.
