Oscar-Winning Fisher Stevens Rejects Meghan’s Offer After Beckham’s Success

Renowned director Fisher Stevens has turned down an offer from following the success of David Beckham's documentary.

While Fisher's four-part series highlights Beckham's exceptional skills on the field, the project truly shines beyond the sidelines.

According to Netflix press notes, Fisher Stevens had unprecedented access to David and Victoria Beckham, making his work all the more intriguing.

As a serious documentary filmmaker, Stevens has an impressive track record, having directed Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2016 Nat Geo climate change documentary “Before the Flood” and winning an Oscar as a producer for the 2010 documentary “The Cove.”

He also received a 2020 Emmy nomination as an executive producer for the Netflix docuseries “Tiger King.”

In an interview with the Sunday Times of London, Fisher Stevens shared how he came to collaborate with David Beckham on the documentary.

He explained that Leonardo DiCaprio's office contacted him, as David and Leo were spending time together and David was seeking a director for his own documentary.

Stevens was recommended by DiCaprio himself, leading to over 30 hours of interviews with David Beckham over the span of two years.

Stevens humorously admitted, “I definitely felt like I was his therapist.”

He emphasized that David and Victoria are ordinary people who face real problems, initially reacting just like anyone else when confronted with significant events.

However, their ability to confront challenges head-on and remain true to themselves is what sets them apart, surprising everyone with their noble principles in both personal and professional aspects of life.

This quality ultimately leads them to success and stability.

When asked about other collaboration offers he received following the success of the Beckham documentary, Stevens chuckled and revealed that a certain high-profile couple approached him.

However, he felt that they didn't understand his working style.

Stevens found one of them to be unprofessional, while the other lacked star quality.

He expressed doubts about being able to create any significant value from working with them, even if given a decade.

Stevens shared his dislike for tabloids and his skepticism regarding their compatibility with Hollywood.

He mentioned watching their previous TV show, which he believed explained why it didn't succeed.

This comment has sparked speculation about Meghan and Harry.

Despite and 's claim to having the most successful Netflix documentary to date, certain publications seem unwilling to let the Sussexes bask in their accomplishments.

Sources close to the former senior royals' business dealings revealed to British tabloids that the couple is facing challenges in establishing themselves as entertainment magnates, despite setting records for Netflix.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that Harry and Meghan's ventures have not been as successful as anticipated.

However, a spokesperson for Netflix stated that they will continue to collaborate on various projects.

According to the AV Club, “Harry and Meghan” was Netflix's most successful documentary debut in 2022.

Notably, Spotify executive and podcaster Bill Simmons referred to Harry and Meghan as “grifters” when they departed from the platform, while UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer criticized Meghan's audio talent, or lack thereof, in an interview with Semaphore.

These statements further fuel discussions surrounding Meghan and Harry's endeavors.

In conclusion, Fisher Stevens declined Meghan Markle's offer after the triumph of David Beckham's documentary.
