Netflix Takes a Dig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Season 6 of “The Crown”
In the upcoming season 6 of the popular drama series “The Crown,” Netflix seems to have found a way to subtly insult Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
While the show is based on historical events, it takes creative liberties and incorporates elements from current events.
The latest season focuses on Princess Diana's final moments and death, but it also includes references to the present day.
“The Crown” has always been a blend of real events and fictionalized storytelling.
Created by Peter Morgan, the Emmy-winning series follows Queen Elizabeth II's reign, combining facts with made-up stories for added impact.
Over the course of its six seasons, the show has featured a talented cast that changes every two years to reflect the aging of the characters.
Season 6 introduces Rufus Camper and Flynn Edwards as the new actors portraying William and Harry, respectively.
However, fans of the show will be disappointed to learn that “The Crown” will not cover Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's romance, as the timeline ends around 2004.
But in the first episode of season 6, Queen Elizabeth II, played by Imelda Staunton, discusses Princess Diana's role in the royal family.
She mentions that after her divorce from Charles, Diana had to learn the difference between being officially part of the family and being out.
Although Diana gave birth to Harry and William, she was no longer allowed to work as a member of the royal family.
Queen Elizabeth's line in the show appears to be a direct jab at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
In the Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan,” Harry himself expressed his desire for a half-in, half-out approach to royal life.
It seems that Netflix intentionally included this reference to create a meta moment, especially since Prince Harry admitted to watching “The Crown” and fact-checking the series.
Interestingly, before stepping down from their senior working roles in 2020, Prince Harry was adamant about not letting Netflix portray him in “The Crown.”
According to royal biographer Angela Levin, Harry once invited her to his palace and asked if she was watching the show.
Although Levin had no interest in it, she agreed to watch it at Harry's suggestion.
However, Harry made it clear that he would put a stop to any portrayal of himself in the series.
Levin also noted that despite Harry's business deals with Netflix, the streaming platform seems to disregard his wishes.
She mentioned that the show might depict him as a mischievous young boy who drinks, smokes, and dislikes his brother.
While Harry did have a rebellious phase during his time at Eton, it is disheartening for him to see himself portrayed in such a negative light.
The public jokes about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as the commentary surrounding them, suggest that the partnership between Netflix and the Sussexes is truly over.
If Netflix wanted to maintain a good relationship with the couple, they would likely avoid making such remarks.
It appears that they have completely distanced themselves from the Sussexes, leaving fans to speculate about the state of their association.
