Netflix CEO Laughs at Joe Coy’s Joke About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
During the recent Golden Globes Awards, comedian Joe Coy had Hollywood stars in stitches with his anti-Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joke.
The Filipino-American comedy star didn't hold back in his debut as the host of the annual awards ceremony, a position he took on just two weeks prior.
Among his targets were Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who became the b*tt of multiple jokes throughout the evening.
In the opening minutes of the show, Coy took aim at the couple's multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, even though they were not present at the star-studded event.
He humorously pointed out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would still receive millions of dollars for doing absolutely nothing, courtesy of their contract with Netflix.
“I have a deal to chill,” Coy quipped, as the camera panned to Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix.
The camera zoomed in on Sarandos after Coy cracked the joke, capturing the Netflix CEO visibly laughing.
It seemed as though Sarandos was aware of the criticism surrounding the deal and found Coy's jest amusing.
The comedian commented on Sarandos' reaction, saying, “He's laughing like, I know we screwed up.
He knows he has a dud of a contract.”
Coy also took the opportunity to mention Meghan's lack of humor and Harry's tendency to complain about the palace not defending her on trivial matters.
The Golden Globes incident has only added to the mounting criticism faced by the couple, who have recently been dubbed the “Harkles.”
Many believe that there are not enough exciting projects in the pipeline to save their reputation.
Sarandos now faces a difficult decision: either cut ties with the couple or go above and beyond to ensure their success on Netflix and salvage the company's image.
Following the host's remarks, social media was abuzz with reactions.
One person sarcastically commented, “So Harry and Meghan just got called out at the Golden Globes awards.
Joe Coy, a comedian, said, ‘And Harry and Meghan Markle got paid multi-millions for doing absolutely nothing.'
Netflix laughed at them.
2024 is not starting off well.”
Another individual pointed out that many cast members from the TV show “Suits,” in which Meghan previously starred, were present at the awards ceremony.
Despite this, Coy proceeded with the joke, sending a strong message that the couple is not favored by the industry.
The incident has further cemented Meghan and Harry's status as global laughing stocks, revealing Hollywood's true opinion of them.
The puff pieces about Meghan's directing career or her move to Hollywood for more opportunities are now met with skepticism, as the entire room at the Golden Globes laughed at the mention of their names.
It appears that their behavior has turned them into running jokes in Los Angeles, undermining their claims of being humanitarians working for charitable causes.
In light of these events, talent agency WME, which represents the couple, faces a challenging task in rebuilding their image and securing future projects.
The controversy surrounding Meghan and Harry shows no signs of subsiding, and it remains to be seen how they will navigate their way through the entertainment industry moving forward.
