“Everyone thinks that just being married to Zara means everything is fine and dandy, but that doesn't take away from the fact that you need a job,” Mike expressed.

The structured routine of rugby had become ingrained in him, and its absence left a void that needed filling.

Reflecting on his adjustment period, Mike acknowledged the struggle of redefining his identity outside the rugby sphere.

Zara, too, recognized the time it took for Mike to navigate this transition.

“If she's honest, it probably took a year to figure out who I was and who I was going to be,” Mike shared.

The challenge lay in carving out a new path, devoid of the camaraderie and familiarity of his rugby days.

Despite the initial hurdles, Mike has successfully ventured into new endeavors post-retirement.

He now co-hosts the popular rugby podcast, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, alongside James Haskell and Alex Payne.

The trio embarked on a successful 17-date tour across the UK, showcasing Mike's resilience and adaptability beyond the rugby field.

Financial concerns have also weighed on Mike's mind, despite lucrative advertising deals with renowned brands like Land Rover, Rolex, and Musto, collectively estimated to yield around £1 million annually.

Currently residing at 's Gackenpark estate in Gloucestershire with Zara, their three children, and beloved pets, Mike and Zara have found solace in their family life.

The love story of Mike and Zara began in 2003 in Australia, where their paths first crossed during the Rugby World Cup.

Eight years later, the couple exchanged vows in a breathtaking ceremony at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, following in the footsteps of and .
