Meghan Markle’s Love for “The White Lotus” Revealed: Duchess of Sussex Expresses Admiration for HBO Drama
In a recent interview, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, disclosed her affinity for the popular HBO drama series, “The White Lotus.”
The show has garnered a significant following, including celebrity fans like Markle herself.
During the interview, Markle delved into her personal interests, revealing that she enjoys watching shows in her leisure time.
Markle shared insights into her daily routine, stating, “Once we've got the kids to bed, playing a little wordle or doing my 10 minutes of Duolingo, I really wanted to relearn French.
I studied it for four years in high school, and then it just went away.
So after those two things, if we do turn on the TV, which is fairly rare, I think we're like most people, where you do endless, endless, endless searching until you're so tired of searching, you don't watch anything.”
Expressing her admiration for captivating storytelling, Markle added, “There are some incredible shows at the moment, and I think really like watching a great storytelling.
There's nothing like it.
So I would say ‘The White Lotus' is a pretty good example of that,” she told Variety.
Interestingly, it was revealed that Markle had reached out to the director of “The White Lotus” to express her interest in appearing on the show.
However, her request was declined due to the challenge of creating a character that would align with her image as the Duchess.
The decision was made to protect the integrity of the storyline and ensure a seamless connection within the overall narrative.
While Markle's pursuit of a role in “The White Lotus” did not materialize, her involvement with Netflix has been met with mixed results.
The streaming giant recently released a documentary series featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which failed to secure any Emmy nominations.
This snub may bring satisfaction to critics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
In contrast, “The White Lotus” received an impressive 23 Emmy nominations, including recognition for the exceptional episode titled “The White Lotus: Unpacking.”
Jennifer Coolidge, who portrayed the character Tanya McCoy in the series, received her second Emmy nomination.
The show's success was surpassed only by fellow HBO dramas “Succession” and “The Last of Us.”
“The White Lotus” dominated the nominations in the outstanding supporting actor and actress categories for a drama series, with most of the cast members securing spots and now competing against each other for the prestigious award.
The winners will be announced at a televised ceremony in Los Angeles on September 18th.
This news arrives amidst reports of the couple's recent business challenges, including their canceled deal with Spotify.
Prior to her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle had already established herself as an actress, gaining recognition for her role as Rachel Zane in the acclaimed Netflix legal drama series, “Suits.”
Markle appeared in over 100 episodes before her departure in season 7, coinciding with her real-life transition to focus on her royal duties and philanthropic endeavors.
