Meghan Markle’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Dream Denied by WME Agency
Meghan Markle and the WME agency find themselves in a heated dispute as the agency rejects her request for a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Walk of Fame selection committee, which comprises past honorees, carefully selects new stars from a pool of hundreds of nominations.
Established in 1960, the Walk of Fame spans 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Los Angeles, boasting over 2,700 stars embedded in its sidewalks.
Not only is it a renowned tourist attraction, but it also holds great significance as a high-profile honor.
Anna Martinez, the producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies, described it as the only award that can be shared with fans.
In an interview with Billboard, she emphasized its interactive nature, stating that fans can sit next to the stars and even pose with them.
The honorees are chosen across six categories: motion pictures, television, live theater, live performance, radio, recording, and sports entertainment.
Recent reports indicate that Macaulay Culkin, known for his roles in iconic movies such as “Home Alone,” “Richie Rich,” and “My Girl,” received a star on the Walk of Fame this week.
During the ceremony, Culkin expressed his gratitude to the Walk of Fame committee, acknowledging the love and support he has received throughout his career.
He also highlighted the lasting impact of “Home Alone” as a beloved global sensation.
However, Meghan Markle's name was notably absent from the nomination list.
According to a source on Blind Item, there are two reasons behind her exclusion.
Firstly, anyone active in the entertainment industry can be nominated, provided they have at least five years of experience in the relevant category and a history of charitable contributions.
Unfortunately, Meghan falls short in both areas, lacking the required experience and having her charity work called into question.
Additionally, the source revealed that Meghan refused to pay the requested fee for the star, creating a rift between her and the agency.
While she desires the honor, she expected it to be bestowed upon her without any financial obligation.
The Walk of Fame imposes a fee of $75,000, which is collected at the time of selection, to cover the creation, installation, and general maintenance of the stars.
Typically, the nominating organization, such as a fan club, film studio, or record company, takes care of the payment.
However, in Meghan's case, she refused to pay the fee herself, and WME declined to foot the bill on her behalf, leading to a clash between her and the agency.
This latest incident adds to the growing perception that Hollywood has distanced itself from Meghan Markle.
Many A-listers have avoided being photographed with her, and prominent figures like the Obamas, Clooneys, and Kevin Costner have seemingly distanced themselves from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan's lack of work opportunities further compounds the notion that her time in Hollywood may be dwindling.
In contrast, celebrities in Hollywood relish the opportunity to meet the royal family and are careful not to jeopardize any potential future invitations to events involving the royals.
This sentiment highlights the reluctance of stars to align themselves with Meghan Markle, as they seek to maintain positive relationships within the industry.
While Meghan Markle's hopes of joining the illustrious ranks of the Hollywood Walk of Fame have been dashed for now, it remains to be seen if she can overcome these obstacles and make a lasting impact in the entertainment industry.
