Meghan Markle’s Fashion Rule Debunked: Royals Wear Same Colors on Christmas Day
Meghan Markle's claims about the royal family's fashion rules were proven wrong on Christmas day, as Catherine and Princess Beatrice stepped out in similar outfits.
In an episode of “Harry and Meghan,” Prince Harry's wife stated that family members should never wear the same color as senior royals.
However, this assertion was contradicted by Princess Beatrice and the Princess of Wales during the traditional Christmas morning service.
Catherine, the wife of Prince William, wore a dark green Alexander McQueen coat with flat pockets on the bodice, a pleat skirt, and an inset waistband.
Following closely behind her, Princess Beatrice donned a dark green coat with a belt at the waist and a fur collar.
Observers also noted that other family members sported similar colors.
Queen Camilla opted for a dark blue coat, while Lady Louise, the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie Countess of Wessex, chose the same shade of blue.
This was not the first time such a color coordination occurred.
During Catherine's Christmas Carol concert earlier this month, Princess Charlotte and Zara Tindall were also seen wearing burgundy, along with the future Queen Consort.
Some headlines even interpreted this as a cheeky swipe at Meghan.
The Daily Mail's headline read, “Was the Great Royal Burgundy Parade a Cheeky Swipe at Meghan?”
The Guardian echoed a similar sentiment, stating, “The Sea of Burgundy at Westminster Abbey: A Not-So-Subtle Rebuke to Meghan.”
Meghan had claimed that the royal family had a rule against wearing the same colors.
She explained, “To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same colors as Her Majesty if there's a group event.
But then you should also never be wearing the same color as one of the more senior members of the family.”
However, this statement was proven to be untrue, as Middleton had been seen wearing the same color as the Queen on multiple occasions.
Furthermore, Meghan had previously stated that she avoided wearing bright colors to blend in with the family and not embarrass them.
However, royal fans quickly debunked her allegation by sharing photos of her wearing colorful outfits during her time as a working royal.
After the release of their Netflix docuseries, royal expert Arthur Edwards expressed his belief that Meghan and Harry had made a wrong move.
He noted their absence from the traditional December 25th morning service and commented, “Their continuing criticism of the institution in the Netflix documentary has backfired.
They're missing out on way more than they're gaining.”
This sentiment was further emphasized when King Charles addressed the nation in his first King's Speech.
While he acknowledged Prince William and Catherine for shining a light on practical examples of community spirit, he omitted any mention of Meghan and Harry.
It seems that Meghan's claims about the royals' fashion rules and her attempts to distance herself from the family have not been well-received within the institution.
