Meghan Markle’s Children’s Book Criticized as “Garbage” and “Torturous” by Australian TV Host
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has come under fire from an Australian news host for the poetry in her debut children's book, The Bench.
Rowan Dean, a host on Sky News Australia, slammed the Duchess after she released a video promoting her book.
During a discussion on a colleague's show, Dean criticized a recent video of Meghan reading her poem, describing it as “garbage” and “torture” to listen to.
He even suggested that the video should come with a trigger warning due to its poor quality.
Expressing his disappointment, Dean said, “Chris, I have to say, I will be honest, it is Friday night and I thought we were mates.
What sort of friend would inflict on their mate having to spend three minutes watching that garbage from Meghan Markle?”
He went on to criticize the lack of rhyme and coherence in Meghan's poetry, calling it “boring as bat droppings.”
Dean even compared the experience to having an annoying song stuck in his head all afternoon.
The video in question, posted on the Brightly Storytime channel, features Meghan herself reading from The Bench, a book she wrote as a poem for her husband and son Archie.
In the video, she explains, “I hope you enjoyed The Bench, I loved being able to share it with you.
And now I hope you're able to go and find your own special bench, or chair, or little quiet nook.
Just a place that means something to you to share with someone you love.”
This is not the first time Meghan has given a reading for her book.
In September, she and Prince Harry visited a school in Harlem, where Meghan shared her book with a group of second graders.
However, a clip of Meghan reading on Australia's Today show caused a burst of laughter among the hosts.
Newsreader Alex Cullen struggled to keep a straight face, while co-host Ally Langdon questioned why it was difficult to do so.
Despite the laughter, Cullen eventually admitted that it was a lovely story.
Despite the criticism Meghan has faced for her book, she has received praise for her charitable efforts.
When the Sussexes signed a book deal with Penguin Random House, Meghan ensured that her children's book would contribute to a humanitarian cause.
Reportedly, 2,000 copies of The Bench were sent for free to schools and libraries in the US, with one institution in Los Angeles receiving a copy for each child they care for.
The Assistance League of LA, an organization dedicated to helping at-risk children and families, expressed gratitude to Meghan for her donation.
In conclusion, Meghan Markle's children's book, The Bench, has faced harsh criticism from an Australian TV host who labeled it as “garbage” and “torturous.”
Despite this, Meghan has received praise for her philanthropic efforts, as she ensured that her book reached children's charities and institutions.
