Meghan Markle Faces Biggest Snub as Oprah and Gail King Ignore Public Backlash
In the aftermath of the explosive interview between Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Gail King has revealed that her close friend Oprah has seemingly brushed off the public's reaction.
Following the airing of the two-hour interview in the UK, which garnered a response from Buckingham Palace, Gail King, host of CBS's This Morning, disclosed that she had reached out to Oprah to discuss the widespread reactions, only to find that she was indifferent to the situation.
During Tuesday's episode of This Morning, King shared that she had called Oprah on Monday to inform her about the escalating controversy.
However, instead of acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Oprah appeared disinterested in the response to the interview.
“She's sitting on her back porch reading a book, not paying attention to all of this,” King recounted.
Despite King's insistence that the situation was significant, Oprah seemed unconvinced.
In an official statement released by the palace on Tuesday, the Queen addressed the interview, expressing sadness over the challenges faced by Harry and Meghan in recent years.
The monarch also acknowledged the concerns raised in the interview, particularly regarding issues of race, and assured that the family would address them privately.
The Queen concluded the statement, as she has done in the past, by emphasizing that Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be cherished members of the family.
Meanwhile, during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were apprehensive about the public's response to their return to the UK.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a public appearance alongside the royal family at the Thanksgiving service held at St Paul's Cathedral.
However, their reintegration into the fold seemed uneasy.
Royal correspondent Richard Palmer observed that Prince William and Kate also appeared tense during the event.
Body language and lack of eye contact indicated discomfort among the family members.
The seating arrangement caught Palmer's attention, as Harry and Meghan were placed in the second row, seated behind the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, who hold lower ranks within the royal family.
Across the aisle sat Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Kate and William.
The front row was reserved for working royals, leaving no space for Harry and Meghan in prominent positions.
This event marked their first public appearance alongside the Windsors since they stepped down as senior royals two years ago amidst the Megxit controversy.
During the service, Harry and Meghan made a solo procession, holding hands, down the nave of St Paul's Cathedral, preceding future King Charles and the Cambridges.
However, the television cameras did not capture any significant interaction between Harry and his brother William, who have had a strained relationship, or between Harry and Charles, who also share a troubled past.
Additionally, no notable interaction was seen between Meghan and Kate.
It is worth mentioning that in their controversial Oprah interview over a year ago, Harry and Meghan accused an unnamed member of the royal family, excluding the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, of racism, portraying the monarchy as an unsympathetic institution.
Meghan also accused Kate of making her cry before her wedding.
The aftermath of the Oprah interview continues to unfold, with Gail King highlighting Oprah's apparent disinterest in the public backlash.
As the controversy deepens, it remains to be seen how the royal family will address the concerns raised, particularly those related to race.
The tension surrounding Harry and Meghan's return to the UK during the Platinum Jubilee further adds to the complexities within the royal household.
