Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Drop in Royal Website Ranking Amid Concerns of Being Edged Out
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have returned to California after attending Queen Elizabeth II's funeral last week.
However, recent developments suggest that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are growing increasingly worried about their standing within the royal family.
According to an expert, the couple has been pushed down the official royal website, now appearing below Prince Andrew.
This shift in their ranking comes as relations among the family have been deteriorating since Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior members of the firm in March 2020.
The update to the webpage occurred following the Queen's passing, with King Charles assuming his mother's duties.
Previously, the couple occupied a higher position on the page, situated between senior and minor members of the family.
However, they have now been demoted further down.
Royal biographer Phil Dampier expressed his concerns, stating that Meghan and Harry must be anxious about gradually being phased out of the royal picture.
He pointed out that King Charles seems hesitant to grant prince and princess titles to their children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1.
Additionally, their demotion on the palace website indicates that they are no longer seen as working royals.
The couple is eagerly awaiting confirmation on whether their children will receive these titles as King Charles assigns new roles.
However, when Meghan and Harry made the decision to relocate to the United States, the Queen made it clear that stepping away from royal duties meant relinquishing the responsibilities that come with a life of public service.
Mr. Dampier believes that King Charles and Prince William likely share this sentiment.
They want to make it apparent that Meghan and Harry are not working royals and cannot continue to act as semi-official figures.
With their current placement alongside disgraced Prince Andrew at the bottom of the royal website, it appears unlikely that they will ascend the ranks anytime soon.
The recent changes to the website are said to reflect the roles played by working members of the monarchy, rather than the line of succession.
Royal biographer Angela Levin commended the statement made by the new webpage, emphasizing that it highlights what Meghan and Harry are not doing, which holds value within the royal family.
Placing Harry at the bottom can be seen as a safety valve, signaling that expectations for them are minimal.
These alterations come amidst rumors of a streamlined monarchy favored by King Charles III in the future.
To achieve this, the King may remove certain family members from the firm.
Mr. Dampier reiterated that King Charles wants to make it clear that Meghan and Harry are not working royals and cannot assume semi-official roles.
They remain at the bottom alongside Prince Andrew, and there seems to be no immediate path for them to rise in rank.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson acknowledged the recent changes to the website but noted that updating a live website is an ongoing process.
They assured that the palace will continue to update the website as more information becomes available.
