Meghan and Harry Face Criticism as UK Rejects Reunion at Coronation
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have been making headlines ever since their departure from the royal family in 2020.
While the couple has been building a new life for themselves in America, recent reports suggest that they were in talks to attend the upcoming coronation of King Charles III in the UK.
However, TV presenter Nana Akua has a clear message for the Sussexes – stay in America.
In a bid to express the sentiments of the British public, Akua voiced her disappointment with the couple.
“As a member of the British public, I don't want you and Meghan at the coronation,” she wrote.
Akua emphasized that the event is a state affair, not a family gathering, and it is ultimately funded by British taxpayers.
She reminded the couple that it is the people of the country they are criticizing who have supported them and provided them with their titles.
The coronation, scheduled for May 6, holds great significance for both the royal family and the entire nation of Britain.
It marks the beginning of a new era under King Charles III and is an eagerly anticipated event for the British public.
However, the potential attendance of the Sussexes has sparked controversy.
Akua further criticized Prince Harry's recently announced memoir, titled “Spare.”
The book has stirred up controversy as it includes allegations against several members of the royal family, including Queen Consort Camilla and Prince William.
The TV presenter described the memoir as embarrassing and took issue with the couple's contradictory pursuit of privacy.
Since stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, the Sussexes have actively sought ways to maintain their privacy.
However, their recent endeavors, such as their Spotify podcast and Netflix series, have faced criticism for being hypocritical given their desire for privacy.
In light of the reported negotiations for their attendance at the coronation, Akua urged the Sussexes to remain in America.
“Well, they're all yours now, you can keep them,” she wrote, implying that the couple has burned their bridges in the UK.
Interestingly, the couple's popularity seems to be declining even in America.
A recent US poll conducted by Redfield and Wilton showed a significant drop in favorability ratings for both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry's rating plummeted 45 points from plus 38 in December to minus 7 in January, while Meghan Markle's rating dropped 36 points from plus 23 to minus 13.
The poll surveyed 2,000 eligible US voters.
While the Sussexes have found a new life across the Atlantic, it is evident that their actions and decisions continue to be a source of contention and controversy both in the UK and the US.
Whether or not they will attend the coronation remains uncertain, but the possibility has ignited widespread debate and discussion.
