Megan Markle Criticized for Flaunting Overpriced Jewelry in Children’s Video
In a recent YouTube video, Megan Markle has come under fire for wearing jewelry worth a staggering $400,000.
The Duchess of Sussex, known for her extravagant fashion choices, appeared in a video reading her children's book, The Bench, which she dedicated to her husband, Prince Harry, and their son, Archie.
The Bench, released in June 2021, is based on a poem Megan wrote for Prince Harry, exploring the bond between father and son.
In the video, Megan gives a brief introduction, acknowledging illustrator Christian Robinson, before proceeding to read the entire New York Times bestseller.
Towards the end of the video, she expresses her hope that others will find a meaningful place to share with their loved ones, much like the benches depicted in her book.
Despite the video's lighthearted nature, Megan's choice of accessories has drawn attention.
According to Daily Mail, she wore several pieces of jewelry, estimated to be worth around $400,000.
These include a Cartier Tank Watch valued at $23,000, a Cartier Love Bracelet priced at $6,900, a Jennifer Meyer Mini Girl Tennis Bracelet worth $3,000, a Lorraine Schwartz Pinky Ring costing $62,000, and her Engagement Ring, valued at a staggering $350,000.
However, it is worth noting that the watch and engagement ring were likely gifts from Prince Harry, with the watch having belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana.
This is not the first time Megan has faced criticism for her expensive wardrobe.
During her initial year as a royal, it was reported that she spent between $300,000 and $500,000 on clothing alone, including $100,000 worth of outfits during a trip to Morocco.
In comparison, Kate Middleton, her sister-in-law, debuted new clothes worth only $85,000 during the same period.
However, it is important to consider that Kate was on maternity leave for a significant portion of Megan's first year as a royal.
Recently, Megan's visit to an underprivileged school in Harlem caused controversy when she arrived wearing clothes worth over $7,000.
Royal author Katie Nicholl remarked, “Turning up at an underprivileged school in Harlem in a couture coat that costs more than the combined incomes of most of those parents at the school, it doesn't make any sense.
It just shows them to not be in touch.”
In other news, Prince Harry is reportedly planning a trip to the UK this Christmas to introduce his daughter, Lilibet, to her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
According to sources, Harry felt helpless in the US after learning of the Queen's recent hospitalization and wants Lilibet to meet her great-grandmother in person.
He is said to be preparing to return to the UK with Megan and their children, Archie and Lilibet, in the coming weeks.
The insider revealed that Harry has been constantly checking in with the Queen and feels guilty about not being able to say goodbye to his grandfather, Prince Philip, before his passing in April.
The Queen, who regularly holds Zoom calls with her grandson and his family, sent Archie a waffle maker for Christmas.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the Queen feels a deep sadness over not being able to spend more time with her great-grandchildren.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, stated, “She has barely seen Archie since he was born, a source of sadness for her.”
