Megan Markle Criticized for Biting the Hand That Fed Her

Former actress Megan Markle has faced criticism after speaking out about her experience as a briefcase girl on the game show “Deal or No Deal.”

In a recent episode of her Archetypes podcast, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that she quit the show after 34 episodes because she felt objectified and reduced to a bimbo.

Markle expressed her dislike for the spray tans and padded bras she was required to wear, stating that it made her feel forced to prioritize her looks over her intelligence.

However, Royal author Angela Levin was quick to respond, accusing Markle of being patronizing and ungrateful for the opportunities the show provided her.

Levin argued that the roles Markle took on the show helped pave the way for her early career and questioned why she didn’t decline the job if she felt it compromised her values.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan, who also appeared on “Deal or No Deal,” joined in the criticism, defending the show and emphasizing the opportunities it offered.

Jordan explained that while being a model on a game show may not necessarily be about intellect, the executive producers specifically chose models with outgoing personalities who could engage with contestants.

She stressed that the show never treated them as bimbos and highlighted the numerous opportunities it opened up for them.

According to Jordan, the show provided a platform where individuals could make the most of their talents and seize the moment to achieve success.

Reflecting on her own experience, Jordan credited “Deal or No Deal” for launching her career, leading to appearances on shows like “Celebrity Apprentice” and “Extra,” as well as opportunities to co-host the Miss Universe pageant.

She emphasized that the show played a significant role in her professional journey and expressed her desire to defend it and the people who worked hard to make it a success.

While Jordan clarified that her comments were not meant as an attack on Markle, she wanted to ensure that the positive environment on the set of “Deal or No Deal” was acknowledged.

Jordan particularly praised host Howie Mandel for his kindness and respect towards everyone involved.

She contrasted her experience on the show with her time working at the U.S. embassy, where she was valued for her intelligence.

The controversy surrounding Markle’s comments highlights the ongoing debate about the portrayal of women in the entertainment industry.

While some argue that certain roles can be empowering and provide valuable opportunities, others believe that they perpetuate harmful stereotypes.

As public figures like Markle continue to voice their opinions, discussions about gender representation and the treatment of women in the media are likely to persist.
