Megan and Harry’s Netflix Documentary Fails to Impress Hollywood, Receives Mixed Reactions
Megan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has reportedly urged the director of her Netflix documentary, Liz Garbus, to submit it for consideration at prestigious awards shows such as the Golden Globes, the Emmys, and the Oscars.
Titled “Megan and Harry,” the documentary explores their globally discussed love story from a fresh perspective.
However, it seems that Hollywood is not interested in embracing the couple.
According to a stylist to the stars in Los Angeles, Harry and Megan have never received an invitation to the Oscars, indicating that the couple is not well-regarded within the industry.
Even before her role in the TV series “Suits,” Megan Markle had gained a reputation, often being labeled a malignant narcissist.
This negative perception might have contributed to her documentary's lack of recognition.
The nominations for the 80th Golden Globes and the 95th Academy Awards have been announced, but Megan failed to secure any nominations.
The lack of recognition has not gone unnoticed, with an Australian TV host mocking Megan's alleged narcissism and suggesting she should win an Oscar for it.
Sky News host Rita Panahi pointed out that even left-leaning political site Politico published an opinion piece labeling Megan as a narcissist, highlighting the growing division surrounding the couple.
Sophie Ellsworth, an Australian media writer, joined the debate, expressing her frustration with the couple's continuous complaints.
She criticized Megan's Netflix documentary, describing it as a “pile-on” against the royal family and stating that Megan makes money by trashing them.
Ellsworth also mentioned Prince Harry's upcoming book release and Megan's Archetypes podcast, implying that their constant public appearances and complaints are wearing thin on people.
Panahi added that the couple's $100 million Netflix deal might not last long, as the public's interest in their story begins to wane.
The Sussexes claimed in their documentary that their trip to Australia in 2018 was a turning point for their relationship with the royal family, as it showcased their popularity.
However, this claim seemed to have threatened other members of the family, leading to internal tension.
Despite the initial buzz surrounding the release of the Sussexes' Netflix docuseries, it has struggled to maintain its position in the streaming platform's top shows list.
While it managed to stay within the top ten initially, it has now slipped to number seven.
Other major releases during the holiday season, such as “The Witcher,” “Blood Origin,” and “Wednesday,” have overshadowed the couple's documentary.
It seems that Megan and Harry's attempt to reshape their public image through their Netflix documentary has not been met with overwhelming support from Hollywood or the general public.
The couple's ongoing complaints and their perceived sense of victimhood appear to be wearing thin on people, and their financial success may not be sustainable in the long run.
As the couple continues to navigate their new lives away from the royal family, it remains to be seen how they will maintain their relevance and public interest.
