Meg Green with Envy as Beckham’s Netflix Documentary Generates £72.6m Profit
Former footballer David Beckham has reportedly earned a staggering £72 million this year, thanks to the immense success of his Netflix documentary.
This news has left Meghan and Harry feeling envious, especially after their own brand suffered a major setback in 2023.
The power couple, David and his wife Victoria, are expected to reach even greater heights next year with a potential earning of £100 million, as Victoria's fashion brand has turned a profit for the first time in 15 years.
The four-part series, which premiered on October 4th, provided an intimate glimpse into the Beckhams' marriage, early romance, family life, and David's illustrious footballing career.
Company figures released on Friday revealed that David Beckham Ventures Ltd and Seven Global LLP generated a remarkable £72.6 million profit through sponsorships in his production company.
A recent report suggests that the documentary itself contributed over £20 million to their earnings, drawing a record-breaking 3.8 million viewers in its first week alone.
A source close to the couple told The Sun, “In a golden year for Golden Balls, the Netflix documentary deal alone was worth over £20 million, and its tremendous success has been vindication.
David continues to be inundated with commercial and partnership offers and has never been more in demand, despite retiring from football 10 years ago.
The couple is on track to make over £100 million next year, which is truly astonishing.”
Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry, once friends with the Beckhams, have experienced a significant decline in their brand's reputation.
They have gone from being hyped-up to being labeled as the biggest losers of 2023 in Hollywood by The Hollywood Reporter.
Despite the constant media coverage and hype surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, their various projects, including Prince Harry's book “Spare,” the Netflix documentary, Meghan's Archetypes podcast, and Harry's TV appearances in the USA, failed to attract buyers for their core business.
The Archibald Foundation, a charity associated with the couple, saw a staggering $11 million drop in donations over the past year, pushing it deep into the red.
This outcome does not come as a surprise to some industry insiders.
One Royal Public Relations expert stated, “In fact, back in January of this year, I warned that Harry's brand was in crisis and imploding.
This was during a time when Harry and Meghan were riding high on their media hype strategy.
Now, Meghan and Harry need to deliver success in 2024 to turn their careers around.”
According to Royal PR expert Mark Bukowski, if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex fail to achieve their goals next year, Hollywood will decide that the entertainment world has had enough of them.
He added, “Something is beginning to unravel at the heart of Meghan and Harry.
I think 2024 is going to be a seismic year for them.”
Bukowski emphasized the need for the couple to find a new positive approach to recover their image and warned that if they can't, they will ultimately fail.
However, there are some insiders who believe that Meghan's success in the entertainment industry is contingent upon her apologizing to Prince William and reconciling with the royal family.
Sources suggest that William's influential position as President of the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) could potentially hinder Meghan's success in the industry.
