Major Changes in the Monarchy: Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie Could Lose Their Titles
The Royal Family is preparing for significant transformations as Prince Charles assumes the role of King Charles.
It seems that his vision for a streamlined monarchy may result in Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie losing their titles.
According to royal expert Marlene Koenig, there will be changes, and it is possible that Beatrice and Eugenie could be downgraded to the status of daughters of a Duke.
Koenig further explained that Charles' intentions are primarily focused on achieving gender equality in the line of succession, which is often overlooked.
So, what alternative titles might former princes and princesses hold?
It appears that they would be referred to as Lord and Lady.
This practice was established in the 1917 letters patent for the great-grandchildren in the male line.
Consequently, the present Dukes of Gloucester and Kent, who are grandsons in the male line, are the last individuals to have the HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) and Prince titles, as their children are not considered part of the royal family.
The Earls are styled as the Earl of Ulster and Earl of St. Andrews.
This tradition was initiated by George V and will likely be reinforced by Charles, with a stronger emphasis on gender equality.
King George V's letters patent restricted the HRH styling and titles of Prince and Princess solely to the Sovereign's children, the grandchildren of the Sovereign in the male line, and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales.
If Queen Elizabeth had not made a slight modification to this convention in 2012, only Prince George, the eldest child of Prince William and Kate, would have been entitled to the HRH style and Prince title.
However, the late Queen extended these honors to all the children of the current Prince and Princess of Wales, excluding the children of Charles' younger son, Prince Harry.
Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana became eligible for their HRH titles when King Charles ascended to the throne on September 8.
Nevertheless, no official announcement has been made regarding the formalization of these titles.
Speculation about whether the new king will reduce the number of title holders or working royals began circulating after Queen Margaret of Denmark announced that she was stripping four of her grandchildren of their titles.
The affected individuals are the three sons and one daughter of Prince Joachim, the Queen's younger son.
In an interview with Danish news outlet Extra Bladet, Prince Joachim expressed his disappointment, stating, “It's never fun to see your children being harmed.
They are being put in a situation they do not understand.”
