King Charles III Evicts Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from Frogmore Cottage
In a surprising turn of events, King Charles III has evicted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their British home, Frogmore Cottage, on the Windsor estate.
Mirror readers were asked for their thoughts on this decision, which reportedly came just days after the release of Harry's Tell-all memoir.
It seems that there has been no improvement in the relations between the Sussexes and the royal family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed that they were asked to vacate the ten-room cottage, which was gifted to them by the late Queen after their marriage in 2018.
A friend of Meghan claims that the couple was stunned by this decision, while at least two members of the family were appalled by the news.
Despite repaying the cost of $2.4 million in renovations, Prince Harry and Meghan only lived at Frogmore Cottage for six months before stepping down as working royals and moving to California in 2020.
Interestingly, it is Prince Andrew who has been offered the keys to Frogmore now.
However, sources suggest that he is resisting the King's wishes to downsize from his current residence, the 30-room Royal Lodge.
Mirror readers were asked whether they think Harry and Meghan should be given another house following their eviction.
An overwhelming 89% of respondents said no.
Out of the total 10,564 people who voted in the poll, approximately 9,344 selected the option of not providing the couple with another house.
This sentiment was echoed in the comment section, where one reader wrote, “Frogmore Cottage is a grace and favor property owned by the monarchy.
Due to their own words and behavior, H&M are no longer in the grace and favor of the monarch, and eviction from Frogmore is a consequence of their actions.”
On the other hand, 10% of voters believed that Harry and Meghan should be given another house, citing the $2.4 million they spent on renovations as a reason.
Only 1% of respondents chose the “other” option in a separate poll.
In yet another poll, readers were asked if they think Charles is right to offer Frogmore to Andrew.
Surprisingly, 49% of responses voted yes.
Out of the 11,957 people who participated in this poll, 5,907 chose the option of Charles helping his brother out.
Meanwhile, 5,506 people opted for the option of Charles not assisting Andrew, expressing their opinions on the matter.
Many royal fans criticized Andrew, stating that Frogmore Cottage was meant for Prince Harry, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet when they visit Great Britain.
They also questioned why Andrew would need a 30-bedroom property if he has been offered Frogmore Cottage, suggesting that he should be grateful and keep a low profile.
There are even suggestions that Prince William and Kate could be given the Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate, as it would be more fitting for such senior members of the royal family to occupy a grander residence.
