King Charles III Considers Unconventional Move in Royal Tradition
In a surprising turn of events, King Charles III may be on the verge of defying royal tradition by granting the Prince of Wales an extraordinary royal title.
Palace insiders reveal that Kate, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne are also potential candidates for the appointment as councillors of state.
This decision comes after Charles disregarded protocol and expanded his team of advisors to five individuals, granting them the authority to assist him during periods of illness or when he is abroad.
Previously, Prince Charles, Andrew, William, and Harry served as councillors of state before the passing of the Queen.
Their selection was based on their age and their position in line to the throne.
The role was also held by Prince Philip until his retirement in 2017.
Currently, two councillors of state manage state affairs in the absence of the monarch, including the approval of appointments and legislation.
However, reliable sources from the palace suggest that three new additions may soon join the existing five.
The current list of councillors of state includes Princess Beatrice, Duke of York, Duke of Sussex, Queen Consort, and an insider from the palace stated that no one will be excluded.
It is deemed necessary to expand the pool of councillors of state for practical reasons.
Considering the likelihood of the King and Queen Consort's absence, as well as the potential absence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, it is essential to address this matter before the King's first trip abroad this year.
Dr. Craig Prescott, a constitutional scholar from Bangor University, commented on the unusual nature of adding Kate to the list, but suggested that it may be the simplest solution to the issue at hand.
He stated that there are not enough working roles to serve as councillors of state, making the adjustment a logical step.
Additionally, Prince Edward and Princess Anne could be designated as councillors of state, as they are already part of the royal family.
Including the Prince of Wales in this role would also align with the current circumstances.
In order for this decision to be implemented, a formal process would need to take place before the King's departure.
It is expected that the legislation will easily pass through Parliament, given the straightforward nature of the proposed adjustments.
