King Charles III Considers Appointing Princess of Wales to New Royal Role
Significant changes are on the horizon for the British royal family, as King Charles III contemplates granting the Princess of Wales, Kate, important new responsibilities.
Speculations suggest that Kate, along with Princess Anne and Prince Edward, may be appointed as Councillors of State.
This move would mark a significant shift, as King Charles plans to expand his advisory team from three to five members, allowing him to seek assistance when he is abroad or unable to fulfill his duties.
During Queen Elizabeth's reign, the four royals next in line to the throne—Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Andrew, and Prince Harry—held these positions.
However, it was expected that Prince Harry and Prince Andrew would relinquish their roles once Charles ascended the throne, as they are no longer active members of the royal family.
It is believed that Charles intends to increase the number of Councillors of State, welcoming three additional individuals into the fold.
Including the Princess of Wales in this expansion would not only be unprecedented but also logical.
In the event of joint decision-making, the Prince and Princess of Wales would act together, as two Councillors of State must collaborate.
This approach seems to be the most straightforward solution, and the necessary legislation should easily pass through Parliament.
King Charles has previously served as an advisor to the late Queen Elizabeth II, and according to the Royal Family website, Councillors of State handle a significant portion of the Sovereign's official duties.
These responsibilities include attending Privy Council sessions, executing legal documents, and receiving credentials from incoming ambassadors to the United Kingdom.
However, they are prohibited from engaging in certain tasks, such as managing Commonwealth concerns, dissolving Parliament (unless specifically ordered by the Sovereign), creating peers, and selecting a new Prime Minister.
