King Charles III Appoints Prince William as Acting Head of British Royal Family During U.S. Visit
King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to embark on a three-day visit to France, leaving Prince William in charge of the British Royal Family and the monarchy.
This decision comes after their original trip in March was postponed due to mass protests against Emmanuel Macron's government.
As per existing regulations, Prince William, also known as the Prince of Wales, is among the seven senior members of the family entrusted with making decisions on behalf of King Charles III during his absence or in the event of illness.
This responsibility has been granted to him since he became a state councillor on his 21st birthday in 2003.
While the King is away, he can delegate duties and tasks to his seven advisers, who have the authority to attend official meetings and sign routine documents on his behalf.
However, Prince William will return to England before King Charles III and Queen Camilla depart for France the following day.
In addition to Prince William, his uncle Prince Edward and aunt Princess Anne have also been appointed councillors of state.
This expansion of the council occurred last year, allowing them to serve as monarch if necessary.
Furthermore, Princess Beatrice has been included in the fold, providing additional support to Prince William, despite not being a senior royal.
During the reign of the late Queen, there were only four advisers of state – Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince William, and Prince Harry.
The recent expansion of the council was prompted by the challenges faced by the British royal family leading up to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
However, it is important to note that the authorization to serve as a family member who can make decisions on behalf of the monarch is restricted to individuals residing in the UK.
This condition could potentially affect the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, if he decides to relocate his residence to California.
