Kate Middleton’s Mission as Future Queen Consort: Prioritizing Children’s Well-being
When she finally ascends the throne alongside William, Kate Middleton will embrace a new role and a fresh mission.
So, what will be her first priority?
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, King Charles ascended the throne and bestowed upon his son, William, the title of Prince of Wales.
In his inaugural speech as king, he expressed his delight at this change for his eldest child.
William's wife, Kate, also experienced a shift in status.
“Our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations,” he proclaimed.
When William eventually becomes king, Kate will assume the title of Queen Consort, just like Camilla, Charles' wife.
Similar to Camilla's joint ceremony with Charles, Kate will be crowned alongside William.
However, it is important to note that despite potentially being referred to as Queen Catherine, she will possess no political or military power and will not reign as queen.
In the unfortunate event of William's demise preceding Kate's, their son George will succeed him, followed by Charlotte and Louis.
As Queen Consort, Kate will continue to support her husband, a role she has embraced since their wedding in 2011.
But what initiatives will the new Queen Consort prioritize?
According to the Daily Express, during a children's picnic at the RHS' Chelsea Flower Show on May 23rd, an inquisitive 11-year-old posed this pivotal question to Kate.
“I asked her what's the first thing she is going to do when she becomes queen, and she said she is going to help kids.”
For years, Kate has been a staunch advocate for children's causes.
She has lent her support to charities focusing on children's mental and emotional health, including the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, Family Action, and Place to Be.
For almost a decade, she has actively participated in Place to Be's Children's Mental Health Week.
In a 2017 speech delivered when she was still the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate elucidated why children's mental health held such significance for her.
“People often ask me why I am so interested in the mental health of children and young people.
The answer is quite simple.
It is because I think that every child should have the best possible start in life.”
Kate also imparts valuable lessons to children on how they can support one another.
In the same speech, she emphasized, “Helping someone out will also make you feel so much better, too.”
Beyond children's mental health and well-being, Kate exhibits a fervent commitment to early childhood studies.
She firmly believes that a child's early experiences significantly impact their future and development, making support during the first five years crucial.
In 2020, Kate launched a survey called “5 Big Questions on the Under Fives” to gather insights on this topic.
The survey results, published on the royal family's website, revealed that only 25 percent of respondents recognized the importance of the first five years in shaping a child's life.
