Jeremy Clarkson Slams Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Praises Joe Rogan in Latest Column
In a scathing critique, Jeremy Clarkson, renowned presenter of The Grand Tour and star of Clarkson's Farm, has once again taken aim at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
This time, he compared the couple to US comedian and presenter Joe Rogan, whom he claims to have never heard of.
Writing in his weekly column, Clarkson expressed his disdain for the $18 million podcast deal secured by the Sussexes, highlighting that Rogan's earnings surpass theirs by over five and a half times.
In The Sun, Clarkson revealed his discovery of Joe Rogan, a man he admits to being unfamiliar with, who managed to amass a staggering $100 million from selling tape recordings of himself engaging in conversations.
Drawing a sharp contrast, he pointed out that Harry and Meghan, who consider themselves global superstars, are only able to secure $18 million for their own podcast endeavors.
Clarkson concluded that this makes them 5.55 times less interesting than someone he had never even heard of.
The controversy surrounding the Sussexes' podcast deal extends beyond mere comparisons.
Spotify recently faced backlash after removing Neil Young's music from its platform.
Young insisted that his music should not be available for streaming as long as Spotify continues to host Joe Rogan's podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience.
Rogan's podcast reportedly garners an impressive 200 million downloads per month and has signed a sports broadcast deal worth £75 million.
Clarkson's comments come in the wake of Spotify's decision to hire in-house producers to fulfill the $18 million contract with Harry and Meghan.
This move comes after the couple produced only one podcast episode, leaving the streaming platform eager for more content.
It is worth noting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released their initial podcast episode over a year ago, in December 2020.
These recent remarks from Jeremy Clarkson follow his previous criticism of Harry and Meghan's Netflix deal, in which he predicted an abundance of subpar content.
The Sussexes' agreement with Netflix, struck after their departure from royal duties and subsequent move to California, includes plans to create documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children's programming.
Dismissing their ambitions, Clarkson remarked, “They will be drivel.
£100 million to make shows and films that inform and give hope?
Kill me.
I'd be much better making their programs, as I don't give a s**t about anything they give a s**t about.
Just awful.”
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle herself has been the target of Clarkson's criticism on multiple fronts.
On his new TV show, he dedicated the opening segment to what he dubbed the “festival of tears,” referring to Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Clarkson seized the opportunity to mock the interview, insinuating that Meghan had passed gas during the conversation.
He played a clip of a noise, claiming it to be the sound in question, and suggested that Piers Morgan may have been right in questioning Meghan's honesty.
However, he later clarified that ITV's legal department requested him to clarify that the noise was not a fart, although he found it peculiar that they were able to make such a determination.
As Jeremy Clarkson continues to voice his opinions on current events and public figures, his candid and often controversial remarks are sure to generate both interest and debate.
